So I stumbled upon this video from pitchfork.tv and was blown away at how good this song came off live. The Walkmen who are one of the contenders in many best of 2008 lists with their new album “You & Me.” They played first single ‘In The New Year” for pitchfork.tv in Juans Basement (who the fuck is this Juan guy?) and it was all recorded for our viewing pleasure. The performance is the definition of intimate with the boys all playing right next to each other with hardly any space to stand in lead singer Hamilton Leithauser’s case.

I thought Hamilton’s voice shined throughout this performance. The guitars were crisp, and it just gave the song so much depth and atmosphere. This is quality stuff. I must catch these guys live soon. I can only imagine what ‘The Rat’ sounds like. Enjoy the video below:
