Tracks That I Can’t Get Enough Of Right Now

By Will, September 17th 2008

I have been doing this blog thing for about 1 and a half months and I am proud of how it is doing. It is a modest success but I have a decent amount of readers, and besides my friends I honestly did not expect anyone to read this thing. I changed the layout a bit, but nothing too rediculous….I hope…OH and I purchased a domain so now I got my own link, no more blogspot! So tell all your friends!!

I am not one to post many mp3′s since I don’t want to give off the impression I am just posting them to garner page views via elbo.ws. But I have found a lot of really cool music over the last month and figured I would post a whole bunch of them as a mini thank you to everyone and anyone who reads my site. (They will only be up for a week, then they will be removed. They are for sampling only. Go support the artists!!!)

Kanye West – Love Lockdown (New Version) (MP3)
-I’ve posted about this more times than neccesary. But I had to include this gem in here. Kanye took a risk with this one, and hit a homer run. Gotta love the new drums he added in the new mix. Cheers to him listening to his fans. (buy the song on itunes now!!)

Bloc Party – Talons (MP3)
-This track is a new single from them that was just sent out via email a few weeks ago, but it is actually on the album ‘Intimacy’. they just decided to release it seperatley to keep the nature of the “single” alive. I think it is one of the better moments on ‘Intimcy’ and are glad they added it.

Ra Ra Riot – Too Too Fast (MP3)
-Ra Ra Riot really have a geniune sound to them. There is just something about them. How can you not like this band. This may be one of my favorite songs at the moment, I really like the drum beat, vocals, and chorus of this song. It is pretty much indie-pop perfection.

Chairlift – Bruises (MP3)
-You may know this as that song in the new ipod nano commercial. I just discovered this and it is a gem. The vocals sorta remind me of the Moldy Peaches (Anyone Else but You). This is a cool tune and will be a big hit, until the next ad comes out…

The Morning Benders – Waiting On A War (MP3)
-These guys fucking rule. I caught them opening for The Kooks and they really blew me away. They got a really good sound going for them. The album is a killer blend of pop that you can listen anytime anywhere. Plus they worked their own merch table, you cannot ask for anything cooler.

SO3 keep showing strong potential

By Will, September 17th 2008

This isn’t the first time I have posted about these dudes. (See here) Just as a quick recap, they are a up and coming band from L.A. that is slowly building a strong local following. Now it is time to take that and spread the world elsewhere. Their first sinlge MIA. (not to be confused with Mrs. Paper Planes) is one hell of a single that will end up on my best of the year list. My good pal Serge who just happens to play bass for them was kind enough to provide me with a few new songs. The first being ‘Montezuma’ which was the first track that the boys worked with a producer on. These guys really sound professional on this track, it is a well made songs. I really like the bridge/chorus on the song.

Next is a cool instrumental from the band called ‘Death Throes’. The mixing on it isn’t completely done but you still get the idea. It is a really cool instrumental that has a really dark feel to it. You gotta love the guitar/bass work on this song, Mike plays on hell of a guitar. This is one funky track. Keep a watch on these boys, they will be getting a lot of attention very soon. Downloads of both songs below, as well as good old MIA as a bonus.

[New] Crooked Fingers – Phony Revolutions

By Will, September 17th 2008

This is the brand new single from Eric Bachman’s band Crooked Fingers. They have been around since 2000, and their last two releases have been for the most part critically acclaimed. This is my first taste of them however.

The track is called ‘Phony Revolutions’ and will be featured off their new album Forfeit/Fortune. The album was recorded with an all-star cast of special guests which included Brian Kotzur (Silver Jews) ,Tom Hagerman (Devotchka) and frequent Crooked Fingers touring mate Neko Case. Bachman crafted some cool horn arrangements on ‘Phony Revolutions’, and his voice really went well with the song. Give it a download below:

Forfeit/Fortune will be out on October 7th. Buy the album from their website!

Kanye Re-Made Love Lockdown Already

By Will, September 16th 2008

Wow that sure was fast. Kanye is a man of his word. I thought the first version was good, but he really polished this song and made in even better! There are now drums during the ‘Love Lockdown’ chorus. The new effects are quite noticeable and only add on to this single.

Everyone was quite quick to hate on this when he premired it on the VMA’s but I think everyone is going to soon realize this is something truly different from Mr. West and I can already see it becoming one of my favorites from him.

Go check it out from his blog: Kanye’s Blog

[New] Jenny Lewis – Acid Tongue

By Will, September 16th 2008 — with 2 comments

Jenny Lewis has a new album coming out called ‘Acid Tongue’ and this is her hot new single of the same title. I am not familiar with her solo work. I do like the few songs I have heard by Rilo Kiley (Silver Lining, Moneymaker). This is her 2nd solo album. I have heard pretty good things about her first album Rabbit Fur Coat, and will have to look into that.

The song is an alt-country anthem that has some gorgous harmonies. ‘Acid Tongue’ drops in stores on 9/23 and features a pretty large group of guests. They include the legendary Elvis Costello, M Ward & Zooey Deschanel (She & Him), Benji Hughes and more!

Kanye Tells Us Love Lockdown will be re-made!

By Will, September 15th 2008

This seems to be a polarizing song. I however, think it grows quite fast on you. Many people complained about it not being up to par with Kanye’s past work. He used his ever so popular blog to respond:

Your prayers have been answered!! There’s a new version of love Love Lockdown coming. We used new taiko drums and I re-sung it… it’s being Mastered now….
Here’s the newer artwork with perfected type 4 all design snobs lol…

Sidebar… if you don’t like autotune… too bad cause I love it and have been using it since the College Dropout!!!

It is pretty neat to see such a big mainstream act interact with his fans so well. I personally think Love Lockdown is a killer track, and hope that the newer version stays true to the original vision he had. I think the emotions give the song a whole different feeling that I loved in stuff like ‘Hey Mama’. Give the track a stream below. There is also a cool remix I discovered:

The Killers Name New Album ‘Day & Age’

By Will, September 15th 2008 — with 1 comment

The album is called ‘Day & Age’ and will be available in stores on November 25. The first single will be called ‘Human’. Pitchfork says “There’s a seven minute epic called “Goodnight”. This sounds promising to me.

Lets hope they can combine the great moments of Sam’s Town (When You Were Young, For Reasons Unknown, Read My Mind) with the classics from Hot Fuss (Mr. Brightside, All These Things That I’ve Done, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine). I got a feeling that the Killers are going to hit us hard with an epic, rocking new album.

We will find out in 2 months. Until then keep pretending that Sam’s Town has not grown on you!

Your 33 Black Angels – New Song

By Will, September 14th 2008

New Yorkers 33 Black Angels have returned with a new record called ‘Tales of My Pop-Rock Love Life’. Look out for it on October 14th. David Fricke from Rolling Stone called their last album, ‘Lonely Street’, “one of the year’s treasures.” The new album is 22 songs long. The band themselves called it “florid, visionary rock and soul about girls, death violence, daises and true love.”

They sorta sound like a modern version of Pavement (at least to me.) I dig lead singer Josh Westfal’s calm voice directing the mood. This song is pretty mellow and relaxing. Give it a download/stream below.
