Right now the sonic powerhouse of a band Great Northern are working hard on their follow-up to the 2007 critically adored album “Trading Twilight For Daylight”. The album is produced by Michael Patterson who has worked with artists from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Beck, and even Puff Daddy. Recording is going to wrap up sometime in the next month and will hopefully see an April 2009 release.

Singer-keyobardist Rachel Stolte said “For this record we’ve felt a bit like a changed band. Theres more darkness, and more urgency. On this record we try to express everything that’s been accumulating through our time on tour and through our life experiences since the first one came out.”

Co-founder Solon Bixler warns that the new album will not lack intensity, and will most decidedly differ from the band’s first. “And,” he says, “We hope the next will be different from this. We are constantly inspired by the evolution of the world and the art that surrounds it. It would be impossible to stay the same.”

Home was one of the highlights of last year for me, I am interested to see what the album turns out like. Check out some MP3’s below:
