Tired Of Reading Britney Spears Posts?

By Will, November 17th 2008 — with 2 comments

If you pay attention to what is going on with music blogs like me, you have noticed that everyone seems to be posting about Britney Spears new album which apparently leaked? Unfortunately that means the blog world will be clogged up with her posts for the next week or so. To put it nicely I am not a fan of her’s. I guess people who don’t like Kanye would mention how I constantly posted about Kanye last week. Oh well. Where is the rest of 808′s when you need it?????

Anyway, for all of you who can’t stand the “pop princess” like me, here are my favorite female artists that I think are fantastic. You will too!

Listen To A "Lost" Beatles Track?

By Will, November 17th 2008 — with 1 comment

Remember the Beatles? You may know them as the most popular band in the world, if not “the greatest.” You have been listening to their records for countless numbers of years, and there is no doubt that they are timeless. There may be a unreleased 14 minute experimental Beatles track called ‘Carnival Of Light’ that could be seeing the light of day soon. If you want to read more find the article at CNN. I am intrigued to see what this song sounds like, keep locked in. If the songs drops I will surely let you know

The Thermals Reveal New Album: Now We Can See

By Will, November 15th 2008

Here’s Your Future: More good music! Ah, finally some good news on the Thermals. They have announced that they will release their new album “Now We Can See” on April 7th of next year. This is their first album under their new label Kill Rock Stars, after leaving Sub-pop. Get excited. Pitchfork recently interviewed the band about their new record, why they switched from the popular label Sub-Pop, and about their new drummer Westin Glass. When asked about how the recording is sounding, front man Hutch Harris said “This is hands-down our best sounding record. Thanks John! With what I think are our best songs, with our best lyrics yet, dude we are stoked!”. The Thermals have a really straightforward, catchy sound that no one can really compete with right now. God bless Oregon bands huh?

Here are two of my favorite songs from their last record “The Body, The Blood, The Machine”:

[NEW] Jay-Z – History

By Will, November 14th 2008

I have sitting on this one for a while, not quite sure when to post it. I have let it settle for a bit and as you can tell, it is time. After Mr. Obama won the election Jay-Z dropped by a radio show because he thought it was time for it. It is an emotional track that illustrates just how strongly Obama has impacted the hova himself. Spin it below, be a part of history folks.

We All Like Covers!

The Last Shadow Puppets – I Want You (She’s So Heavy) (Beatles Cover)

The wonderful delightful side project of the Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane (The Rascals) are on of the bright spots of 2008 for many obvious reasons. Not only is Alex Turner one of the brightest songwriters of this generation, but then you add his good buddy Miles to the mix and they complement each other perfectly. A little less than a week ago at their gig in Amsterdam they played a cover of the Beatles classic ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ and it is fantastic for sure. It stays true to the origianl song, and it does it plenty of justice. Download the mp3, or watch the live video. Or both!

[MP3] : The Last Shadow Puppets – I Want You (She’s So Heavy) (Beatles Cover) | (ysi)

Holy Fuck – Balloons (Foals Cover)

Holy Fuck is pretty cool name. Foals are awesome as well. What happens when you allow the other to play a song? Find out below:

The Killers – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

The Killers are an entertaining band. They aren’t afraid to show a different side every now and again. They are only this daring live I suppose….

[MP3] : The Killers – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper Cover) | (ysi)

The Chairs- In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (Neutral Milk Hotel Cover)
I haven’t been able to find much into on this band. I stumbled upon this cover and thought it was great. They are a band from Wisconsin that just finished up some recordings, so hopefully we will be able to find out more! Visit their website to listen to more songs!

Kanye West – Robocop (Remastered)

By Will, November 13th 2008

Kanye week keeps on going. I’m absolutely sold that this is going to be one of the most discussed albums of the year. I see big sales, critical acclaim on the way. Most fans will go nuts over this new material, but there will be those stragglers who can’t get over the new direction he is taking. That is ok, Kanye will wait for them. They will come around eventually.

I kinda went too far, I just wanted to let you know a mastered version of Robocop has surfaced and it makes quite the difference. Polished vocals, strings that are almost a callout to Vampire Weekend. I enjoyed the first version we got of it, but I didn’t think it would be a standout on the album. This new version has me thinking otherwise.

-If anyone wants me to take this down, let me know and I will do so right away. I only want to help Kanye out by giving people a taste of what a great album 808′s will be.

Band To Watch: The Interiors

By Will, November 12th 2008

One of the brightest new bands to be introduced to me is The Interiors. They are a 3 piece composed of Chase Duncan (vox/gtr), Collin Jordan (bass), and Brian Lubinsky from Chicago, IL. They sent me their debut LP and it is one that has slipped under the radar of many people.

The band had many setbacks even with such a recent start. After they self-released an EP the band got signed to the label 54°40’ or Fight. The band was hit with bad luck when Chase the guitarist & vocalist lost half an inch of his left index finger when a metal door was shut on his hand. The band’s future did not seem to positive, but after a year of rehabilitation Duncan was ready to play guitar again. They banged out an album that surpassed even the band’s highest expectations.

There debut album is a well crafted work with strapping rhythms, sharp guitars, and the drums add depth to the songs with constant shifting taps. The songs aren’t too complicated, but everything that they have in their songs has a rightful place. There is no unnecessary aspects to their songs. Some are catchy, some are

The album is a good blend of indie rock that has it all. If you want to describe them with past bands, think Sonic Youth, The Pixies, and R.E.M. Listen to the engaging songs ‘Powerlines’ and ‘Wingman’ and you will see why The Interiors are gaining respect from the likes of Under The Radar. These guys know what they are doing and it shows. I really enjoyed this record, and I think you will too.
