Girls give album update!!!

By Will, January 8th 2009

Finally! The wonderful band Girls who have yet to release an official LP have finally announced that it is underway. The band left this message on their myspace:

The album is oh so close guys and girls. The wonderful press we have received as well as kudos from fans has been amazing. Lack of planning and time to spend on the completion of the “album” has made it a long process. We just got back to San Francisco from our own studio in my parents house in Santa Cruz. We did some work polishing as well as laid some amazing drum tracks with our new drummer Garett Godard. Just two -three mics on the drums in a lovely ill-angled wood floored room made for some great albini-esque results. The future is very exciting this album is a great album its honest, loose, ethereal, obnoxious and perfect. We cant wait for you to hear it.

WAWSTSF’s Best Albums of 2008: Honorable Mentions (Part 1)

By Will, January 7th 2009 — with 1 comment

So 2008 is a few days behind us, and I finally got done listening to pretty much everything I wanted to. The fact that I want to keep going back to Animal Collectives MPP is an indication that it is time to make my list already. Here are some albums that were great but didn’t make my list. The list was a top 50 of the freshest albums that 2008 had to offer. Some fell short of making it, but were good enough to my ears to deserve a mention. Here they are:

Kanye West – Paranoid (DJ Forefit Remix)

By Will, January 7th 2009 — with 5 comments

Got this cool remix of the underrated (?) Kanye track “Paranoid”  from 808′s from DJ Forefit. He adds something extra to the song giving it club feel. This would be pretty hot on the dancefloor. This is a nice remix, gives the song another dimension, the effects towards the end fit in better than expected. I’m liking it!

This came out of no where! Kanye West of all people debuted the brand new Peter Bjorn and John song “Nothing to Worry About” on his blog yesterday. He said:

WORLD PREMIERE … THEY SENT THE SONG TO ME FIRST!  PETER BJORN & JOHN… SHIT IS DOPE!!  DRUMS ARE CRAZY AND I LIKE THE KIDS ON THE HOOK.  THERE NEW ALBUM IS CALLED “LIVING THING” …..  WITH ALL THAT SAID I DON’T KNOW THE NAME OF THE SONG…  LOL!!!… I’M GONNA ASSUME IT’S CALLED, “NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT”

The song will be off their new album “Living Thing” which is due out 03.31.09. The song is actually pretty great. Has a child’s chorus singing along with the band, a big drum beat, it all works for the band. Kanye called it, the song is quite “dope”. Read his post here or just download the song below:

Who is Jaydiohead?

By Will, January 6th 2009 — with 1 comment

If you have been going to any music news sites you have probably heard the name Jaydiohead around as of late.Well it is the mash up project of Minty Fresh Beats a DJ from NYC who decided to mash up tracks from Jay-Z and Radiohead. The project has been getting an overall positive response from most people. Publications like pitchfork, and stereogum don’t like it but who would have expected them to?? The mashup does work well for most of the album. A few times Radiohead’s music really complimented Jay-Z’s raps, sometimes it was scary.

Luis from PMA showed me about this project on Sunday and asked me to review it as one of his guest contributers. So look out for that soon too. In the meantime check out two of the tracks from Jaydiohed:

[New] Dan Deacon – Get Older

By Will, January 6th 2009

Dan Deacon is set to return with his new album “Bromst” the follow up to his acclaimed 2007 album ‘Spiderman of the Rings’. A track off of the album has surfaced and it is nothing short of great. Deacon continues to produce some really cool electronic music. The song is an explosion of various noises, drums, computerized vocals all resulting in over 6 minutes of musical ecstasy. Like all good electronic music this song sounds that much better blasted on a good set of speakers. I am intrigued to see how the whole album pans out.

“Bromst” is out on March 24th.

[New Music]: GPSI – NoDoubtingElectricFeel

By Will, January 6th 2009 — with 3 comments

For some reason I am still up at 5:37 A.M. What is wrong with me? Anyway, I checked my email for the blog and one in particular stood out to me. It was from someone named Nick Espinoza and all it said was

First track…if you guys like it, post it, if not, tell me how to improve!

GPSI

Nothing more, but a mp3 titled GPSI – NoDoubtingElectricFeel I google it and nothing came up. This guy is either a teenager who is making beats in his house, or some artist who just likes suspense. I hit play and it is a mash up similar to Girl Talk of various artists such as Britney Spears, Outkast, MGMT while also adding his own effects that allow the songs to flow together pretty well. It is quite an enjoyable listen.

Hopefully more details will come through about who this is and what else is out there by them! Anyway here is the song for you to test out for yourself:

Morrissey’s Years Of Refusal Leaked

By Will, January 5th 2009 — with 1 comment

Morrissey’s spankin’ new album Years Of Refusal leaked recently and after one listen I can tell you I enjoyed the album from start to finish. I wouldn’t be able to review/rate it on a 1-10 scale or anything yet, but I could tell you that the album kept my attention and a few songs did stand out. First off I cannot get the song ‘I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris’ out of my head! I made a post about the song on new year’s eve. Another two songs that immidetly stood out to me are ‘When Last I Spoke To Carol’ and ‘It’s Not Your Birthday Anymore’.

So far most reviews indicate that this is one of Morrissey’s better albums and although some songs are weaker than others that there are enough of quality to make this a solid album.

**remember to buy the album when it becomes available! on 2/17**
