[mp3] Here We Go Magic – Tunnelvision

By Will, February 25th 2009

Here We Go Magic is a band fronted by Luke Temple. If you haven’t heard of him here are two quotes from two big names:
sp

“Luke Temple has one of the most beautiful voices in pop music.” – Sufjan Stevens
“”His voice alone is so damn good — one of the prettiest voices in all of indie rock, hands down.” – Ben Gibbard

How is that for an introduction? Yes his voice is magnificent. If you want to hear it, you are in luck! This past Tuesday, their new self titled debut album was released. The band’s name describes the music perfectly. It sounds like a really good dream, part of it underwater. For example check out the awesome “Tunnelvision”, where Luke shows off his impressive vocal range, as well as his ability to craft magical pop songs. The rest of the album has some pretty cool stuff as well :

SO3 – Lose The Girl [EP]

By Will, February 24th 2009 — with 3 comments

picture-1

SO3 were one of the first bands to ever email my blog, and because of that they hold a special spot in my blog. I started this blog at the end of July of 2008, and since then I hate to say I now skip over most emails since it can get a bit…much. Luckily SO3 got to me from the start. If you have been reading this blog for a while you may remember my introductory post for SO3. If not, then I will refresh your memory. SO3 are a band that consists of Mike Artamonov (Guitar & Vocals) and Serge Belongie (Bass & Vocals) out of Los Angeles. (They are currently auditioning drummers) They have been preping for their first EP “Lose The Girl” for a while and it is finally done. They gave me an advanced listen of their EP which isn’t due until later this month or early March.

Taking a step back and looking at this EP as a whole there is a lot of good stuff to pick out. The guitar work here is a clear standout, Mike Artamonov knows how to shred, there is some serious killer guitar work on their songs. The production of the EP is also fantastic, especially for a band’s first EP! “MIA” is a track that they have been using to introduce themselves for months now and rightfully so. It could make a run at some alternative charts in my opinion.  The true standout on the EP was “Sweet Little Girl”. It sums up everything about this band in 6 minutes. The guitar solo at 3:30 would have you think that they have been a band for years, it is that good! You got “Montezuma”, “Streets” and “She” all impressive displays of musicianship. All you other blogs and labels need to take notice of this band. So3 have a lot going for them and are just waiting to be discovered. This is a great EP full of an awesome 25 minutes of rock and roll that everyone and anyone will appreciate i. I don’t just say it because they have become my friends, but because I honestly believe their music deserves to be heard.

NEW | Phoenix – 1901

By Will, February 23rd 2009 — with 3 comments

French band Phoenix have never quite let me down. Why would they start now. They have a new album finally coming out this year titled “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”, and you can bet it will be great! They have given away a free song on their website called “1901″ and the best part is that you don’t have to give any email. The song is still pretty true to Phoenix’s guitar happy sound but this time they have added some synths and other dance influences to spice things up. Curious to see if this is just for this one song or if the whole album has some dance shoes. Either way grab “1901″:

Kid Cudi – Day ‘N’ Nite

By Will, February 23rd 2009

First off all I am way late on this fella! My tardiness is because my first introduction to Cleavland’s Kid Cudi was not a memorable one. I saw him open at the free Santogold (or should I say Santigold) and with scorching heat I was not too into his set. However with Kanye constantly backing him and with a big wave of buzz it was hard for me to ignore him. So I decided to give him another shot. I found his big song “Day ‘N’ Nite” and I was very impressed. It has a lot going on for it! It is almost an effortless feel to it that gives it a chill vibe. It is a mix of rap and pop and it really connected with me instantly. Sign me up for the bandwagon! The song will be off his debut album “Man on the Moon: The Guardians” which is going to see a release sometime over the summer. The track is going to be a hot one this year! Grab it below:

New | The Decemberists – Hazards Of Love 1

By Will, February 23rd 2009

The Decemberists gave us “The Rake’s Song” last month, and now I got “Hazards Of Love 1″, another track off their new album with the same name for you guys. It is the first track (aside from the prelude) on the album and it sounds like a proper opener to me. The song is very mellow with acoustic guitars and Colin’s vocals staying pretty reserved. If anything it will play off as a nice opener in the context of the album. Grab it:

Universal Studios Florida

By Will, February 21st 2009 — with 1 comment

Jason from Universal Studios Florida, a tribal/synth-pop/psych outfit from Seattle, Washington emailed me about a track that his band did with the awesome Blind Man’s Colour. If you remember I raved about BMC in the past. The song is called “Moon Bungalow” and it features BMC on vocals. The song is some pretty rad spacey ambient psych rock that is right up my alley. The song will been seen on the band’s forthcoming full-length out this Spring. Enough talk, get the song below and get the hype going!:

NEW | Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll

By Will, February 21st 2009 — with 3 comments

Another track from the YYY’s new record “It’s Blitz” leaked online (where do these comes from???)! The newest track to drip from that leaky faucet is “Heads Will Roll”. The track continues to stay true to the band’s promise of a more dance driven record. This song is really nice, I really enjoyed this a lot more instantly than “Zero” which I pretty much adored as well. The YYY’s have always put out great material, and I got a really good feeling that the band will conquer their quest for a new sound.

Heartless Bastards

By Will, February 20th 2009

The new Heartless Bastards album “The Mountain” has been getting a lot of love from bloggers and critics this year. For good reason too. Erika Wennerstrom’s vocals are quite special, along with some really chilled out country/rock. The album really surprised me as one of 2009′s dimonds in the rough! Below I got a magnificent track off the album with the same title along with an acoustic version of “Searching For The Ghost”:

The Whip

By Will, February 20th 2009

The Whip have been making some solid buzz waves for a good year and a half. They played big sets at festivals like SXSW, got some solid airtime on WOXY. If you are unfamiliar with the band, you should first make sure you got the bass turned up and you dancing shoes on. They play some really great dance music that deserves your attention. The Manchester band’s debut album “X Marks Destination” saw release last year in most places except the U.S. of course. For once I had patience and have been waiting for their album to drop here. They finally are going to release the record on March 3rd! The synths are lush, the bass is bumpin, this is some groovy electronic music from a place where so many Oasis wanna-be’s come from. This is a breath of fresh air. A very fun one!

Also the band is making a stop in the US for a small tour. Check out the dates:
