Playlist Timeeee

By Will, February 20th 2009

I have been very lazy with posting lately. I don’t know why, but I haven’t felt like I needed to really post much. At some points it feels like I have to post, and then my posts become boring. I wouldn’t want to be some robot posting so maybe not posting as frequently will liven things up for me? Anyway who knows, I’m sure I will post just as much anyway. Whatever I doubt you want to hear rants….so here is a playlist of songs new and old(ish) that I have been playing non-stop:

[mp3] : The Lonely Island – Jizzed In My Pants

[mp3] : The National – Brainy

[mp3] : Andrew Bird – Anonanimal

[mp3] : The Walkmen – Thinking Of A Dream I Had

[mp3] : Mando Diao – Long Before Rock N’ Roll

[mp3] : Motel Motel – Coffee

The Chairs – Flume (Bon Iver Cover)

By Will, February 19th 2009 — with 4 comments

The Chairs were one of my bands to watch for this year, and for good reason. They did an absolutely killer Neutral Milk Hotel Cover and released one really solid debut EP. They have hit me up with another cover this time of Bon Iver’s magical song “Flume”. They did a fanastic job with it, really making it their own while also keeping the eerie atmosphere that Bon Iver created. These guys keep putting out more magic. You gotta listen to this:

March 21 Omaha, Nebraska The Foundry
March 22 Columbia, Missouri Cherry Street Artisan
March 23 Kansas City, Missouri Davey’s Uptown
March 24 Ames, Iowa Ames Progressive
March 25 East Moline, Illinois MixTapes

NEW | Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero

By Will, February 17th 2009 — with 7 comments

yeah-yeah-yeahs

Woah. Didn’t see this coming! “Zero”, the first single from the new YYYs record “It’s Blitz” has leaked (at a low quality) and it is very cool. It does sound quite dancy like they described! I will have to give it a few more spins but I am overall pleased with this new direction they have taken. Try it below, tell me what you think:

Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest: Cover & Tracklist

By Will, February 14th 2009 — with 4 comments

Grizzly Bear have given us the album cover and track listing to their highly, and I mean highly anticipated 3rd album (2nd as the full band) Veckatimest (due out May 26th!). To be honest when I heard the album name and discovered that it was an uninhabited island, I had a pretty clear idea of what the cover would look like. In my head was a photo of some beautiful piece of land with possibly a body of water in the background. I’m sure most of you had something similar in your head. However the album artwork was not even close to that. Grizzly Bear caught me off guard with the album art. But oh man is it colorful! I actually am really digging it, it is quite a feast for the eyes. Just like the music will be for the ears. The album cover just screams bad ass record. Oh…it will be.

Damn if you couldn’t tell, I am really pumped to hear this album. Honestly this has to be my most anticipated of 2009. I have had the Letterman version of “Two Weeks” playing for a week straight it seems. It is just that good. I wish I could just get to May already! I guess it’s time for Yellow House…again! :-)

Tracklisting below:

Veckatimest:

01 Southern Point
02 Two Weeks
03 All We Ask
04 Fine for Now
05 Cheerleader
06 Dory
07 Ready, Able
08 About Face
09 Hold Still
10 While You Wait for the Others
11 I Live With You
12 Foreground

[mp3] Animal Collective – In The Flowers

By Will, February 13th 2009 — with 2 comments

If I could just leave my body for the night,
Then we could be dancing
No more missing you while I’m gone
There we could be dancing,
And you’d smile and say, “I like this song”
And when our eyes will meet there
We will recognize nothing’s wrong
And I wouldn’t feel so selfish
I won’t be this way very long

I think that this part of Animal Collectives brilliant MPP opener “In The Flowers” just may be my favorite lyric at the moment. With the lush buildup the lyrics just really get to me.

Two NEW The National Songs

By Will, February 13th 2009

I have been searching for some of the live recordings of the new songs that The National played at their NYC show a week ago. I searched endlessly with no luck, but finally there is a god. Onethirtybpm was awesome enough to post two of the new tracks that they played; “Karamzov” and “Wake Up Your Saints”. Both songs displays The National’s ability to create atmosphere through Matt Berninger’s haunting vocals. “Karamzov” has a really dramatic tone to it. It stars with some strong vocals from Matt over a soft piano and some brass instruments. Very slowly it builds into something special. I will say it again, Matt’s vocals are magical they really give the National a definitive sound. “Wake Up Your Saints” features Matt crooning about “Walking the streets I Love” over a jumpy piano line. The song almost has a bouncy feel to it, if anything it adds a sense of urgency.

Both tracks are fantastic, and I can only imagine how great they will sound in the studio. The National are unstoppable right now. Their next album will probably see a release in 2010 which is a long ways away but as long as they take time to craft more albums with the same quality as “Alligator” and “Boxer” all music fans will be pleased.

New | Doves – Kingdom Of Rust

By Will, February 12th 2009 — with 1 comment

Doves have provided us with another taste of their upcoming album “Kingdom Of Rust” with a song sharing the same title. This single is another fantastic offering from the band who have been so consistant, I didn’t expect anything less. After taking a 4 year break since their last album “Some Cities” the Doves are ready to prove once again why they are one of the highest quality bands that England has to offer. They gave us Jetstream a few weeks ago, and now they are giving us another taste. Doves know how to promote a new album. They are 2 for 2 now. We only gotta wait to April 7th to hear the rest of “Kingdom Of Rust”. Sweeet

With the Yeah Yeah Yeahs 3rd album comes the interesting title “It’s Blitz!” along with cool album art of a woman squeezing the hell out of an egg. The album is due April 14th and the first single is called “Zero”. “Skeletons”, “Heads Will Roll”, “Soft Shock” are some other song titles that you can expect to see on the album. You know you are excited!! The only other details that I have about the album is that is was produced by Dave Sitek and Nick Launay. TVOTR’s Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone had some contributions to add to the album as well. I love the YYY’s I wonder what direction they will take with this one. (thanks to Stereogum)

Oh and here is the artwork for the first single “Zero”:
