Band To Watch: Bruce Peninsula

By Will, February 4th 2009 — with 6 comments

I have been lacking with my new bands to watch for months. I always find tons and tons of new bands that deserve some spotlight, but it is impossible to post about them all. Bruce Peninsula is a new discovery of mine that has really left me impresssed. Take a look at the photo above. Bruce Peninsula is a pretty large band with ten members! The songs as you expect are quite epic with plenty of contributions from the various members. Their debut album “A Mountain Is A Mouth” actually came out today and it is fantastic. The songs are powerful, moving, and full of sonic beauty. I will post up a review of the album sometime this week. I just wanted to introduce the band to you guys for now.

Dive into these tracks and let me know what you think!:

Well it turns out that We All Want Someone To Shout For actually made the final round of Pretty Much Amazing’s Blog Wars! This is pretty funny considering I wasn’t even supposed to be in the battle. One of the selected blogs dropped out, and Luis was kind enough to put me through. I ended up making it to the finals and now I am facing off against Luis himself. So I am against one of the biggest (if not the biggest) blogs on the internet. Shiiiiiit

You should go over to PMA right now and vote! The idea of this war is that Luis picks a song for 2 blogs to put through iTunes Genius, and then we post our list of 25 songs. Then he posts the two lists and his readers vote. The song for this battle is The Decemberists “Los Angeles, I’m Yours”. The catch is Luis is not telling who the list belongs to, so you won’t know who your vote is going to!! Either way go vote, and we will see which list wins!!

Port O’Brien caught my eye last year with the mezmerizing song “I Woke Up Today”. They got a lot of talent, a lot of energy, and make some really genuine music. I still am digging into the album “All We Could Do Was Sing” but they have decided to give us more new music. Stereogum reported that the band has plans to release a 7″ single for each season of 2009 to document the different times. This is a really cool idea, and could create some intrest towards the band.

The first song is called “Is This Really What It’s Come To?” and the song is very nice. It does indeed have a winter feel, it is really chilled out and relaxing. These guys continue to impress. Grab the song below and enjoy:

The Winter tracks will be out digitally on 2/17. Only 500 Vinyl Copies will be availavle at their website.

New | Coldplay – The Goldrush

By Will, February 3rd 2009

Coldplay are going to release “Life in Technicolor II” as an official single and the b-side for that was premired online today. The song is called “The Goldrush” and it features drummer Will Champion on vocal duties. His voice suites the song very nice and I think they should do some more dual vocal songs. I approve!!

Please buy the release from Parlophone!

Brand new tracks from Bishop Allen are available. The songs are called “Dimmer” and “The Ancient Commonsense of Things” and will be featured on their new album “Grrr…” set to be released on March 10th. The songs are very good, very poppy, and the hooks are more than welcoming. The band really write some fun lyrics that make your head stretch out and think a little bit. The songs have a really clean sound to them, and they just sound nice. Looking forward to “Grrr…”. These guys can do no harm! Check the songs out:
