Months after 2008 and I am still spinning British Sea Powers “Do You Like Rock Music?” fairly constantly. For the most part I was giving “No Lucifer”, “Waving Flags’ and “Atom” the most love. However after more listens “Lights Out For Darker Skies” has come to be one of my favorite songs. I really like the way the constructed the songs, and the lyrics that go along with it. There are a few lines that resonate with me well:
“Oh stop acting like you’re my best friend
When you don’t know why and you don’t care how it ends
And you dance like sparks from a muzzle
And you fall like sparks from a muzzle”
I’m sure you can figure out what part I am referring to!
I am a sucker for songs that have an epic feel and BSP have made that a hobby. They are not over the top either, they do it just well enough to sound authentic. You gotta dig how tghe song takes a break at the halfway mark only to make its way back to its uplifting chorus. Glorious.
