Bloc Party – Signs (Armand Van Helden Remix)

By Will, March 19th 2009 — with 1 comment

Bloc Party’s Intimacy has been a weird record for me. At first I thought it was fantastic, but after more listens I grew less fond of it and then I stopped listening to it all together. I picked it up a few times here in there hoping to find the band that made “Silent Alarm”. I am still trying to find a place for “Intimacy”. I don’t know if it’s bad that I am promoting a dance remix considering that this electronic/dance direction that the band seems to be heading in doesn’t seem to be working. Oh well what can ya do, in the mean time here is a cool remix of Sings to shake things up a bit

[mp3] Jenny Wilson – The Wooden Chair

By Will, March 18th 2009

Jenny Wilson is a Swedish singer/song writer who plays sophisticated swedish pop influenced by electronic music. She just recently released her 2nd album “Hardships!” this past Febuary. I just recently discovered her music and have a great track to share with toy. It is called “The Wooden Chair” and it is quite delicious. Nicely done Jenny.

My boys Vampire Weekend are playing on Jimmy Fallon’s tonight show tomorrow night to play a new song “White Sky”. The song will be new to those who have not seen them live or seen it on youtube. I’ve had the luck to see it 3 times and each time they have changed it around just enough to make it that much better. The song is very good, and I bet it will sound great live. I hope Ezra does the dance that he always breaks out during their live performances.

If you want to hear it ahead of time check out a live mp3 of “White Sky” from when the band played at Glasgow below:

London’s dance happy quartet; The Rakes are set to release their 3rd album “Klang” in the UK next week. So to get the word out about their indie dance rock overseas here in America the band has announced 3 shows in the states:

April
01 – Troubadour, Los Angeles CA
02 – Popscene, San Francisco CA
06 – Bowery Ballroom, NYC

To get an idea of what the album will sound like preview two tracks featured on the album. Hopefully with this album people will start to appreciate this vastly overlooked band.

NEW | Phoenix – Fences

By Will, March 17th 2009 — with 1 comment

I cannot stop listening to Phoenix’s awesome new record “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”. It is everything that you could ask for. “1901″ still sound ridiculously fresh but at the moment “Fences” is my recent obsession. It is such a chilled out song, you cannot help but adore it. This is my jam!!!!!! Try not to like this one:

NEW | Voxtrot – Trepanation Party

By Will, March 16th 2009

Finally Voxtrot have given us new music. After their sorta dissapointing debut album the band has pretty much dissapered. However today frontman Ramesh Srivastava posted the folowing message on the bands website along with a new song:

Dear World,

Things have been rather quiet round the Voxtrot camp these last two
years. Nonetheless, we are thrilled to be reentering the musical minds
of you and your loved ones. During the week of the South By Southwest
Music Festival, we will be performing two concerts. These will coincide
with the premier of a new song, which was produced, recorded and mixed by Jim Eno [Spoon] at his studio in Austin..

Regarding our absence, sometimes one needs to disappear in order to
regroup; situations change and human beings are swept here and there
by the marvelous ebb and flow of culture.

And so, there can be only this: a return to a love of music.

Love,
Ramesh

The song is called Trepanation Party and to me the band sounds just as fresh as they did on their EP’s. I am very, very impressed with this song. It looks like some time off did the band good! This song has a dance vibe to it, a little bit different for the band.

Voxtrot is back!!!! Rejoice!

Cymbals Eat Guitars

By Will, March 16th 2009 — with 1 comment

Cymbals Eat Guitars are a band that are going to be talked about a lot, and for good reason. The indie band from NYC has tons of energy with songs changing from relaxed to explosive in the matter of a few guitar riffs. The songs feature some borderline screams and angry yelps but they do it in a manner that suits their style. Their debut album “Why There Are Mountains” has been one that deserves tons of repeated plays. They play very smart epic rock that is getting comparisons to the likes of Built To Spill and Modest Mouse, and rightfully so.

Listen to “Wind Phoenix” below and see what Cymbals Eat Guitars are all about:

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s It’s Blitz Bonus Tracks

By Will, March 13th 2009 — with 1 comment

It’s Blitz is still sounding good each day. For those of you who didn’t get it off itunes here are a few bonus tracks that make the listening experience that much better. First you got a beautiful a acoustic take of one of the album’s standout tracks “Hysteric” and a bonus track titled “Clap Song “. The latter sounds like it could have come off their last album “Show Your Bones”.
