I have gave the new Maxïmo Park a quick spin and right away the song ‘The Kids Are Sick Again’ stood out. The song pulled me with its catchiness, and signature Paul Smith lyrical wordiness. This was picked as the first single from the album for a good reason. It is one of the sharpest tunes that Maxïmo Park have laid down yet!

[NEW] The Gossip – Heavy Cross

By Will, April 27th 2009 — with 2 comments

The Gossip got their name out back in ’06-’07 when their song ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ got decent play and Beth Ditto was all over the British tabloids. They have returned with a new single called ‘Heavy Cross’ that will be seen on their new album ‘Music For Men’. I couldn’t really get into these guys aside from ‘standing in the way’ but this tune is a pretty enjoyable pop rock song.

Mashup : Sigur Ros vs. Mobb Deep

By Will, April 25th 2009 — with 4 comments

Like I am with remixes, I don’t listen to too many mash ups. However some artist combination’s catch my attention, and draw me in. One of these just happens to be from a man named Emancipator. The song is called Shook and it really is one of the frew mashups that works perfectly. This is just goodness. I mean every Sigur Ros song sounds magic but this dude keeps the magic going with some Mobb Deep. Eat this one up:

Discovery (Side Project Of Vampire Weekend & Ra Ra Riot)

By Will, April 24th 2009 — with 2 comments

It is time to discover Discovery. Ok that was a bit cheesy. Back to being a serious blogger….Many people say that Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riot both have similar sounds. While I don’t really say that, both bands had a great 2008 and seem to be great mainstays for the new decade. Well now members of both bands have teamed up together for an R&B/Electronic based project. Get to know the side project of Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend) and Wes Miles (Ra Ra Riot). Their band Discovery has been for a year or so, but they apparently are getting the project started again. Here are two tracks from the band that I know of so far. If I find any more I will keep you updated. They are pretty cool. Osaka Loop Line is the standout out of the two, the vocals and snyths combine for pop excellence. This is a side project that we can expect great things from. Two of the coolest bands to come out of ’08 making good music = a happy will

[New Old] Sufjan Stevens – Sofia’s Song

By Will, April 24th 2009 — with 1 comment

Sufjan is a talented man. Not only is he arguably one of the greatest song writers of our generation, he can also write a mean article. He wrote a blurb on the asthmatic kitty sidebar (blog) about his youth. The article is immensely entertaining. He gives you a little bit of insight of what growing up was like with a unique name like Sufjan, and some obstacles of growing up that even indie rock stars go through!

Sufjan found a few old demos/tapes that he made during college and posted one to give us a taste. The song is called ‘Sofias’ Song’ and it only proved this man has had talent for many, many years. The track is not even 2 minutes, but we get enough to get a taste of the developing artist that is Sufjan Stevens. I am begging for a new state album from Sufjan, but a collection of these rarities would satisfy me in the meantime!

Little Boots – Rich Boys (The Virgins Cover)

By Will, April 24th 2009 — with 7 comments

Believe it or not I don’t have a clue who Little Boots is. I just know she is a new artist who has been making a lot of noise, getting her stock up. She is from Blackpool, England and plays English electropop. Also..she is kinda hot! I saw that she covered the virgins awesome track ‘Rich Girls’. She changed the title to ‘Rich Boys’ and added her own flare to it. The result? A fun spin on a fun song. No harm done at all. I liked it a lot.

Now for the rest of her material, I am just starting to look into it and I surprised myself when I actually liked the track ‘Meddle’. If I had to compare her based on style, I would say Santogold. I do need some lady pop in my life every now and then. Don’t want to be a music snob now do I?? Meddle is featured on her debut album Hands which will be released June 8th.

I can tell she is going to be huge this year. And I can live with that!!!

[NEW] Passion Pit – Little Secrets

By Will, April 24th 2009 — with 3 comments

Just yesterday I made a post about Passion Pit. Well the wounderful blogger Sheena Beaston was kind enoguh to comment on it and inform me that the band has made a new track available. They are giving away the track ‘Little Secrets’ a full month before the May 19th release of Manners. Why?? Well they are following the trend off wanting people to remix their songs. You can download the stems and upload your mix for the enitre world to see.

This track is really good as well. Passion Pit have me impressed! Lets hope the whole album is this conistently nice!!!

Vampire Weekend Offer 2nd Album Deets

By Will, April 23rd 2009 — with 1 comment

I don’t think there was a record in 2008 that I listened to more than Vampire Weekends awesome debut. I am still obsessing over it. Practically everyone on campus blasts it, and random bands that play outside on campus have been seen playing songs like ‘Oxford Comma’. Well Entertainment Weekly interviewed lead singer/guitarist Ezra Koenig and got some details out of him about the 2nd album.

The band has been recording the new albums material in Brooklyn aiming for a release in September (wooo!!). Keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij is producing the album again. Ezra has described the recording sessions so far as:

“For the last month or so, it’s just been us by ourselves in this small studio, working every day. It’s nice after having been on tour so much to be in a slightly different situation, but it’s pretty intense. We’re really trying hard to do everything that we want to do.”

“It’s definitely going to be a recognizably Vampire Weekend sound, but there are going to be new sounds. We’re trying to challenge ourselves not to use the same bag of tricks that we used on the first album — different instruments, stuff like that.”

Also Ezra says they will be keeping the live version of ‘White Sky’, rather than the slowed down version they played on Jimmy Fallon. That makes me happy!

Passion Pit

By Will, April 23rd 2009 — with 5 comments

I’m a bit late on these guys but it’s better late than never. Plus, their debut album has not dropped yet so I can’t be that late…can I?? Only in the blog world eh? Well Passion Pit have been making some buzz waves, causing their debut album Manners to be one of 2009′s most anticipated albums. They are an electro band from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Their debut EP Chuck Of Change got the world buzzing about them, and the story behind the EP is a good one. Michael Angelakos the bands lead singer/keyboardist wrote the 6 songs as a valentines day gift for his girlfriend, and then they spread like rapid fire throughout the university he was attending. After that the band exploded. For good reason, these guys produce some enjoyable indie electro that never tires.

I have added the outstanding track ‘The Reeling’ which will be on their debut album, as well as a few tracks from their EP.
