[mp3] : Animal Collective – Taste + La Blogotheque Version

By Will, April 23rd 2009 — with 2 comments

Today’s date is April 23rd. Merriweather Post Pavillion leaked online on Christmas day, and officially released on January 6th. We are creeping up at the halfway point of 2009, and MPP is still my #1 album. There are other contenders (Grizzly Bear, The Antlers, Phoenix) but time will tell how they will hold up. Like pretty much any other music fan I have been obsessing over the “hot” tracks. I have practically been living off of ‘My Girls’, ‘Brothersport’, ‘Into The Flowers’, ‘Summertime Clothes’, and ‘Bluish’. However recently I have been drawn back into ‘Taste’ one of my least played tracks for the album. The melodies won’t leave my head, and I realized it is slowly becoming one of my favorite songs off the album. It is funny how that works.

If you check out this stripped down version that they did for la blogotheque you may have a new admiration for it. It really brings out the best parts of the songs. The lyrics really jumped out at me after watching/hearing the version they did for the Take Away show.

[NEW] Basement Jaxx – Raindrops

By Will, April 23rd 2009 — with 1 comment

Basement Jaxx are no strangers to the house genre. They have hit their stride once again with an absolutely killer of a comeback single. It is called “Raindrops” and it is one hell of a tune. I’ve been playing it constantly since I got it the other day. Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton are back!!!! There expected to drop their new album Scars sometime this summer.

[mp3] Yves Klein Blue – Polka

By Will, April 22nd 2009

I have been lazily reading my emails but I finally tried to give each email my attention. Well I played the song attached to the promo email and the result was a great song called ‘Poka’ from the Australian band Yves Klein Blue. The band has a solid following back in Aussie-land, and now they are trying to get their name out in America. ‘Polka’ is a very good song that could definitely raise a few eyebrows. Here is a cool part of the promo that I felt was worth sharing:

Yves Klein Blue are named after artist Yves Klein’s famous IKB, a blue paint that does not lose its brilliance over time, forever appearing wet and freshly applied. The name is a metaphor for the bands aspiration to create music that will never fade.

The band saw success with their 2008 EP Draw Attention To Themselves making a splash in their homeland, and catching a few glimpses at SXSW. They are prepping their debut album for a May release. In the meantime they will be back here in the states playing gigs. Things should be taking off for these guys in the near future. Check out the dates if your in the NYC or LA area:

Deerhunter’s fantastic albm Microcastle was started out properly with Cover Me Slowly right into Agoraphobia. It was a good choice of songs for the Josh Reichmann Oracle Band to cover. The song is available on Josh’s brand new digital-only Shivering Black EP, out this week on Paper Bag Records.

The band is working on their new LP Crazy Power. The band has grown from Josh Reichmann to a five-piece band incorporating soul, early funk, roots bass and dark punk influences, complete with a live dancer.

[Video] : Chairlift – Bruises (Acoustic)

By Will, April 22nd 2009 — with 1 comment

Chairlifts wonderful Bruises has not gotten old. I don’t think it ever will, it is just too pleasant!! I got an email showing me a beautiful acoustic version that the band did on a porch. The song is stripped down to its bones, but the bruises still sound GREAT!

Dizzee Rascal : New Album + Bonkers/Remix!!

By Will, April 22nd 2009 — with 9 comments

Dizzee Rascal truly is a unique artist. He is a British rapper who is known for his hard to understand vocals, and killer beats. His debut album Boy In Da Corner is one of the critically acclaimed albums of the decade. Two albums later he has still kept his success going, even working with the Arctic Monkeys. Some people are worried that he is going to be unable to continue his success. I guess we will have to wait until Fall to see. The Rascal is set to release his 4th album Tongue ‘n’ Cheek sometime around September.

He dropped a single with Armand Van Helden called ‘Bonkers’ that has club hit potential. The song didn’t impress too many critics or bloggers though. Some people liked the remix done like Doorly better because of its dubstep nature. Well I got both of them for you so you be the judge:

[NEW] The Field – The More That I Do

By Will, April 22nd 2009

The Field’s 2007 masterpiece From Here We Go To Sublime still sounds amazing every time I blast it. It is the perfect type of electronic music, expressing emotion without more than looped vocals and sonic bliss. Well Axel Willner’s project is back with a new album this year called Yesterday And Today. He has given us a new song, called ‘The More That I Do’. It is more brilliance.

Band To Watch: Neon Indian

By Will, April 22nd 2009 — with 3 comments

Browsing through websites and myspace for new music from fresh talent can be a bit tedious. You think you may have found the next it band, but they turn out to just be a fart in the wind. However, that is not quite nearly as bad as when you ignore a band and then see them headlining a major festival in 2 years. If you do find a band that you like, you really just know. Over the weekend I knew I found a special act. I would like to introduce Neon Indian to you.

Their background is just as intriguing and mysterious as their music. They are a duo who make music by sending music to each other. One of the members lives in Brooklyn, the other in Austin. (Postal Service style coming to mind??) These guys are delivering dreamy psychedelic tunes that are drenched in mystery.

They are working on a debut EP that will be called Psychic Chasms. This duo really sounds ahead of their time, I wonder if there is more to this group than we know about. Is it possible that these guys are keeping secretive because they are actually popular artists hiding under this project. Neon Indian have a great vibe going, lets watch these guys grow up!!!

Here is a whole goody bag of songs that they have so far. Digg it:
