Art Brut – Art Brut Vs. Satan

Art Brut is back with their 3rd album, and it was produced by the legendary Frank Black. I posted about the leadoff track a few months ago. Pitchy gave it a 7.7 so apparently they still got plenty of fuel left in their tank.

Brakes – Touchdown

Brakes are an alternative/indie rock band from the UK that has members of British Sea Power (formerly in) , Electric Soft Parade and The Tenderfoot in it. The album is supposed to be their most polished work yet with immediate pop songs radiating from the album.

[mp3] : Brakes – Two Shocks

Camera Obscura – My Maudlin Career

Camera Obscura make delightful female lead indie pop. Their latest LP is called My Maudlin Career and it just got the Best New Music stamp from pitchy.

[mp3] : Camera Obscura – French Navy

Depeche Mode – Sounds Of The Universe

At album number 12 Depeche Mode are getting mixed reviews from the critics, but I am sure the fans of the band are still cheering them on. Their 2005 album Playing The Angel was well recieved, so lets see how this one does over the course of the year.

[mp3] : Depeche Mode – Wrong

Dubious Ranger – Uneasy Truce At The Watering Hole

Think of them as a western version of Franz Ferdinand. The guitar riffs are there.

[mp3] : Dubious Ranger – Weapon

Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream

Walking On A Dream is just as infectious as they come. Sorta the same style as MGMT, which explains why the band is getting so popular all of a sudden. Their debut came out last year, but this is the US release. This should hold you over until MGMT’s 2nd. :-p

Super Furry Animals – Dark Days / Light Years

Super Furry Animals don’t get enough respect here in the States. Do you agree with me? These guys have a very solid and consistent career. Where is the love?

[mp3] : Super Furry Animals – Inagural Trams

[NEW] Sonic Youth – Sacred Trickster

By Will, April 20th 2009

Sonic Youth are no rookies. 15 Albums into their career these NYC noise rockers are getting ready to release their new album The Eternal. They are getting people ready for it by releasing their first single “Sacred Trickster” for free. They are veterans to the game but they sure know how to stay relevant with not only music but also with the way they release it. These guys have songwriting abilities that many artists would make a deal with the devil for.

The band is releasing the new album on Matador Records. An older band heading over to an indie label 28 years into their career? That shows where their heart is. Music. They aint no trickstersssss.

The Eternal drops June 9th

[NEW] Clipse – Kinda Like A Big Deal (Feat. Kanye West)

By Will, April 20th 2009 — with 3 comments

Clipse and Kanye = two rap artists that I absolutely adore. Now we get a brand new Clipse track with the gay fish himself! (JK KANYE)! They both pretty much kill it throughout. This track is pretty hot guys!! It will be on Clipse’s new LP (Their 3rd Album) Till The Casket Drops. Their last LP was insane, I cannot wait for this. Glad to see the track so early. Digg it below!:

The State Of The Mind

By Will, April 17th 2009 — with 2 comments

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what is going on in my life and what the hell my future has in store. Things have been sorta weird for me lately. I got a lot of stuff to figure out. Don’t mean to get all personal on you guys. Here are some of my favorite tracks to help describe my mood – sorta:

[mp3] : Doves – There Goes The Fear

[mp3] : Wilco – Jesus, Etc.

[mp3] : Feist – I Feel It All

[mp3] : R.E.M. – Losing My Religion

[mp3] : The Roots – The Seed (2.0)

[mp3] : Sigur Ros – Vaka

[NEW] Sunset Rubdown – Idiot Heart

By Will, April 17th 2009

Oh Spencer Krug. How I dig your creativity and unique vocals that you bring to Wolf Parade. I will give you credit, Sunset Rubdown is a great band to. How could it not be, anything that the guys from Wolf Parade touch is pretty much always a success!

After two critically acclaimed albums, Sunset Rubdown is set to release their 3rd LP titled Dragonslayer. Interesting title. The band has given us one of the albums songs “Idiot Heart” for free. The song has plenty of cool guitar action and revolves around Spencer’s trademark vocals and ability to make everything sound epic. Cool tune!

[NEW] Green Day – Know Your Enemy

By Will, April 17th 2009

So the first single from Green Days new album 21st Century Breakdown is online thanks to a radio rip. If you remember I posted the title track when it leaked in March. I thought it was enjoyable enough for GD but not their best. After giving their new single “Know Your Enemy” a listen I am dissapointed. The song is going to do well on the radio sure, it is pretty catchy. but I am not sure if it memorable. Even though American Idiot saw a lot of mainstream success I still saw a band with a fiery passion for what they were doing. From the 2 songs that I have heard from the new LP it seems like a tired sequel of American Idiot.

I hope I am wrong but so far I am not too happy. Maybe the songs go better in the context of the album? Anyway I am trying to withhold judgment considering it is a radio rip. What do YOU think?

[New] The Streets – David Hassles

By Will, April 16th 2009 — with 3 comments

Mike Skinner dropped his third free song of the week like he said via his twitter. It is called “David Hassles”. Yesterday I gave you “Trust Me” and the day before “I Love My Phone“. David Hassles is another solid offering from The Streets.

Skinner also wrote:

3 more tunes next week. I’ve really enjoyed this week. thanks for listening. skinimix over on skinnermike.com in a matter of minutes

He is in a giving mood! I am surprised he is giving even more free music out. You gotta wounder if these are tracks that he has had for a while that he doesn’t mind giving away like this, or if they are brand spankin’ new. Either way I aint complaining.

Looking back I introduced the Dead Weather after their impressive single “Hang You By The Heavens” leaked online. Well they made their NYC live debut last night at my favorite venue The Bowery Ballroom. According to brooklynvegan this was the setlist:

60 Ft Tall
Treat Me Like Your Mother
Outside
Bone House
So Far From Your Weapon
I Cut Like A Buffalo
You Just Can’t Win
Rocking Horse
No Hassle

Will There Be Enough Water?

Encore:

Hang You From The Heavens
New Pony

Unfortunatly I am at school again and cannot currently make the trips down to the city. After watching these live performances, it is very safe to say that this new Jack White project is completely legit. The songs that I could find online rocked hard! The songs have an authentic southern blues sound. Top notch tunes! Watch the videos that I could find after the jump. I got the mp3s for you as well!

Tomato is a DJ from Knoxville, Tennesee who remixed Grizzly Bears “Two Weeks” a.k.a. the gem that may just be the best song of 2009.  He added some Jay-Z over the track and re-arranged it to suite the flow. There is a hint of Lil Jon in there too. I think it is at least worth one listen.

I wonder what Ed Droste thinks of it…..!!!
