Animal Collective Remix “Zero” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

By Will, April 13th 2009 — with 3 comments

Animal Collective and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are both having great 2009′s. It is only fitting to see Animal Collective give the YYY’s lead single from their new album “Zero” the remix treatment. They keep the songs pace, only really adding a few effects that give give it a trippy almost world sound. It is a nice listen, but not quite what I expected. What I did expect was something a hell of a lot more exciting. Oh well, it came free with a preorder of “Its Blitz!” from insound”

as a bonus here is the YYY’s doing a cover of The Ramones:

Band To Watch: You, You’re Awesome

By Will, April 12th 2009

You, You’re Awesome have a pretty awesome band name. They hail from Cincinnati, Ohio and play very fun experimental electronic that is just a blast to listen to. They recently released a 6 song EP called “You’re My Superhero” and it is the bomb! It sounds like a soundtrack to a insane trip through outer space and beyond. These songs are both electrifying and almost relaxing. Their is never a dull moment with the EP. I highly recommend picking up a copy.

[mp3] : You, You’re Awesome – I’m Deaf and You’re Boring

The band also remixed Radioheads brilliant track Reckoner, I got it for you guys as well! :

[NEW] Kasabian – Underdog & Vlad The Impaler

By Will, April 12th 2009 — with 1 comment

Kasabian are an exciting band. They got the ambition and attitude of Oasis, and the sound of Primal Scream. They have been on my radar even since itunes gave away “Club Foot” as a free download, and I have been a fan ever since. They are set to release their 3rd album on June 9th, titled “The West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum”. It is named after a mental institution built in West Yorkshire, England in the 1800′s. Kinda…creepy.

The band gave away “Vlad The Impaler” for free on their website along with a bizzare video. The bass for Vlad is immense! It was a great comeback song, succesfully capturing my attention. Kasabian is back! Well “Underdog”, the opening track from the album has leaked and I am very pleased. The band sounds totally into it, this song is massive! I can totally see the BBC eating this one up! What a way to open the album up, I hope they can keep the pace for the duration of the album!

I always have room in my collection for a good rock/electronic fusion. Kasabian fill that description quite well.

Just Jack Covers T.I. & Rihanna’s : Live Your Life

By Will, April 11th 2009 — with 2 comments

I do not have many guilty pleasures out ther but Rihanna would probably be somewhere up there. T.I. has always been one of the few new (ish?) rappers that I listen to and I really found a warm spot for the absolutely huge hit “Live Your Life” that came out of T.I.’s last album. Just Jack is a young dude from the UK who has been making a name for himself overseas. He garners comparisons to The Streets and Jamie T, which pretty much hits the nail on the head. He covered Live Your Life and actually did a pretty decent job with it.

It’s Saturday, I am really lazy and this cover suites the mood. Thanks to PMA/P&P/It’s A Rap for bringing this track to my attention!

Here is a cut from his 2007 album Overtones, a really chill track!!!:

I have been addicted to new indie pop bands that have beautiful melodies. One of this bands is Foreign Born who hail from L.A. Ed Droste has already declared his love for the band and I have to agree with him. The song “Vacationing People” is a lovely cut from their upcoming album “Person To Person”. This tune makes me eager to just take a drive with no destination. I don’t think you could go wrong with thise one on loop all day. There are almost tropical/world influences on this album that are beyond awesome.

If you are an obsessed Arctic Monkeys fan like myself, you probably have been following the wonderful tour videos that Matt Helders has been doing on their youtube channel. They have been giving us great updates on their tour, life backstage (margarita anyone??) and update on the 3rd album!!  In the video diary titled “Rehearsals we actually get to hear a few seconds of a brand new song, which sounds bloody brilliant! They also joke around for a few seconds covering Lady Gaga’s hit song “Poker Face”. On their website it actually hints that they may actually record a full cover of “Poker Face”. I would not object to this, from what I heard the boys have a perfect version of it ready to go!!! Watch it:

The next video is pretty bad ass for many reasons. After making a joke video about P Diddy copying a video diary idea, we see Matt partying with P Diddy himself. Last two people I would expect to see hanging out together!! At the end of the video we get to see a few more seconds of the new song that we heard in the previous video, this time with vocals! This song sounds fucking brilliant. I can’t wait till we are given more new material!!! Check it out below:

St. Vincents new album Actor is for sure going to be one of 2009′s best. I already discussed how much I adored her first single for the album “Actor Out Of Work”. Well the video for it just came out and you can watch it above. I never realized how cute she is, in a very artsy/indie rocker type of way!

Noisettes – When You Were Young (The Killers Cover)

By Will, April 11th 2009 — with 4 comments

Many people are not too found of The Killers anymore, but I still have plenty of room in my heart from them. Either way, no one can deny the brilliance that is “When You Were Young”. Still till this day the song sounds as urgent, and epic as it did when I first heard it. It is without a doubt one of the best songs of the decade.

Noisettes agree with the notion that the songs kicks ass on all cylinders and covered it for BBC’s Live Lounge. The Noisettes are an indie band from London that you should totally check out if you like what they did to The Killers classic. Shingai Shoniwas’ soulful vocals really give the track a totaly different feel. There are soft backup vocals from backup singers over delicate strings that totally transform the song into their own. They even changed the lyrics! This is a brilliant cover, totally worth a spot in your itunes collection :-) .

Brandon would be proud!
