Tuesdays Reccomended Releases (May 19th, 2009 Edition)

By Will, May 19th 2009 — with 4 comments

Today is May 19th, and it is another day full of new releases! Sorry that I didn’t get around to doing one last week, finals and moving out of my dorm took over my time! This week is a pretty solid one with one really big name (Eminem) and tons of smaller indie groups releasing new ones such as the insanely hyped Passion Pit. Overall, a pretty satisfying week for you music lovers.

Apostle Of Hustle – Eats Darkness

Apostle Of Hustle is a indie super group from Canada consisting of members of Broken Social Scene, and Feist. They make unique music that definitely isn’t easily accessible but if you give it enough try’s you may discover some really cool sounds.

[mp3] : Apostle Of Hustle – Perfect Fit

Eminem – Relapse

The new one from Slim Shady is getting pretty solid reviews actually, but the general reception is that he can still do better. Relapse certainly is better than Encore, but that is not saying much. I wish he would lose the goofy accents.

[mp3] : Eminem – Beautiful

The Field – Yesterday and Today

The Field is back with more amazing minimal electronic that is sure to be a favorite of critics and hipsters. The album picks up just where From Here We Go To Sublime left off.

[mp3] : The Field – I Have the Moon, You Have the Internet

Iron & Wine – Around The Well

Iron & Wine a.k.a. Samuel Beam has offered up a 2 disc set of b-sides. This collection is probably for the diehard fans since it consists of rarities and home recordings. Knowing him, they will still sound lovely!

[mp3] : Iron & Wine – The Trapeze Swinger

Passion Pit – Manners

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have heard of Passion Pit by now. If you have not, then get to it! Their debut LP is a fantastic album full of dance worthy beats and lush melodies. I am really enjoying this album!!

[mp3] : Passion Pit – Eyes As Candles

John Vanderslice – Romanian Names

John Vanderslice may just be one of the more underrated singer/songwriters in the game today. His output is consistently enjoyable. You always know you will get a solid set of tunes from this man. Check this out for sure!

[mp3] : John Vanderslice – Too Much Time

White Rabbits – It’s Frightening

White Rabbits may remind of The Walkmen. Well, now add Spoon to that list. Britt Daniel of Spoon helped produce this Brooklyn bands 2nd album. They will be playing at All Points West, which will be an absolute delight to see! Percussion Gun is song of the year material!

Lets Reflect

By Will, May 18th 2009 — with 2 comments

The first monday of my summer is here! It is weird to have all this free time to myself. Since it was my first year in college, it is the first time summer started for me during May rather then the end of June!! I still gotta find a solid job, and get other things figured out. Until then, I will continue enjoying lounging around my house like a bum. I won’t lie, it has been pretty great! Even though I really need $$, spending some time to yourself just relaxing sure is nice!

Lately I have been overwhelmed with how much good music 2009 has brought in. There have been tons of great albums that have come out, and then you throw in all those leaked albums that are in the mix! It is impossible to really give everything a fair listen! So I decided to retreat to some older music that I can just enjoy without worrying about where it fits into the mold. It sounds weird, but you other bloggers may get what I mean. Plus this decade is almost over! We shall reflect!

So without further a-do here are some great songs from earlier this decade. These are songs that will make you smile once you return to them. They just may bring back old memories. It is amazing what kind of memories music can bring out of oneself. I mean it was only a few years ago, but for me those are important years! I am only 18, so this whole decade has consisted of the crafting of my musical taste. Although these songs are unlucky enough to be in an era of a dead radio format and a dying music industry its hard for them to stay relevant. However, for those who really love music these songs will not go anywhere. They are still very relevant in my eyes. And ears!

[mp3] : Annie – Heartbeat

[mp3] : Junior Senior – Move Your Feet

[mp3] : Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails Cover)

[mp3] : The Coral – Pass It On

[mp3] : The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Tonight

[mp3] : The Darkness – I Believe In A Thing Called Love

[mp3] : R. Kelly – Ignition (Remix)

[mp3] : Outkast – Hey Ya!

[mp3] : The Flaming Lips – Do You Realize?

Arctic Monkeys – Favourite Worst Nightmare Demos

By Will, May 17th 2009 — with 10 comments

I just stumbled upon a few rare Artic Monkey demos. They are from the Favourite Worst Nightmare sessions. I got the demo’s for Brianstorm, Do Me A Favour, Balaclava, Teddy Picker, The Bad Thing, and Fluorescent Adolescent. They are pretty similar to their finished products, just more raw and stripped down. You can actually hear certain instruments a lot more clearly in these songs than you do on the final versions.

The only song that sounds very different is  “The Bad Thing”. The Bad Thing may actually be my least favorite Arctic track out of their entire catalog! It isn’t “bad” but it just feels like it doesn’t quite belong on the album. Well, this old demo version works a lot more for me. Their is a lot more…..kick to it!

These are hard to find so enjoy them!!!

Weezer Covers MGMT’s “Kids”

By Will, May 16th 2009 — with 2 comments

Is it safe to say that Kids is one of the most covered songs of the last 2 years? Well either way add Weezer to the list of bands that have covered this indie gem. They even mixed in Lady Ga Ga’s Poker Face in the middle of it. When did Weezer become so goofy? The cover is live from a T-Mobile Party. I got the clip and a mp3 below:

The Radio Dept. have a cult following at their native homeland in Sweeden. They are prepping their 3rd album, and have decided to come tour america for the first time in almost 6 years!!!

Their new single is called “Freddie and the Trojan Horse” and it is a pop gem. It will be off their new album Clinging to a Scheme. This is a nice song to blast away late into the night.

Arctic Monkeys Video Diary Update

By Will, May 15th 2009

(There is a newly updated pic of the band! Jamie rocking a porn star mustache, and Alex sportin some longer hair)

Matt Helders has done a brilliant job keeping his loyal arctic monkeys fans updated on the new album and them in general. From exclusive sneak peaks to partying with P Diddy himself it has been really fun to follow their The View From video blog/diary.

In the latest one they celebrate Matts 23rd birthday! He tells us a little bit more about the album along with hints of song titles in the background. Apparently a new member named John Ashton will be joining the band (at least live on the keyboards).

The new songs sound very very good, as expected! Watch it below:

Summer Is Here!! Well for me at least..

By Will, May 15th 2009 — with 3 comments

Well I am officially done with my freshman year of college! It’s all done with!

Sorry that I did not post much over the last 2 weeks because of finals and other life events. However I am home for months now and will have plenty of more free time. I lost my motivation to post last week, but that does happen every once and a while.

I will try to regain some motivation and make this blog one that you are still willing to shout for. Here are some songs for you to spill your hearts out to.

[mp3] : Robbie Williams – Angels

[mp3] : Interpol – No I In Threesome

[mp3] : Air – Playground Love

[mp3] : Oasis – Don’t Look Back In Anger

Veckatimest Leaks In High Quality

By Will, May 15th 2009 — with 1 comment

Music fanatics and hipsters alike have been awaiting this leak for a while now. It is sad considering it leaked so long ago, but in the worst quality imaginable. Well Ed is probably at least happier that it is going to be heard the way it is meant to be, although a leak so close to the album release date is still disappointing never the less.

I can’t resist listening to it, this is probably my most anticipated album of the year right now. I already pre-ordered it and am going to see you in 2 weeks Grizzly Bear, so please don’t hate me. No high quality posts of any mp3s here. If you really want it find it then make sure you buy it. Play nice!

Love,

Will

[New] Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks (Fred Falke Radio Mix)

By Will, May 13th 2009 — with 1 comment

The gem of 2009, “Two Weeks” has been a favorite song of mine ever since they played it on Letterman, and layed it down at All Points West. Although you have totally heard it already thanks to the leak, you have not quite heard the true “Two Weeks”. Well now you can ’cause the single is out and it comes with a totally delicious remix of the track. Fred Falke takes Ed Droste’s dreaming vocals and puts it over a dance floor beat that results in a track so heavenly it would make any man or woman swoon.

Fred Falke has just made this beautiful track into a dance classic. I am really, really enjoying this!

Animal Collective Drop Summertime Clothes Live on Letterman

By Will, May 8th 2009 — with 1 comment

Animal Collective made their Letterman debut last night playing the fantastic Summertime Clothes. They went the normal route this time, playing one of the fan favorites rather than one of their weirdest tracks (like when they played #1 on Conan). The performance was really great, pretty spot on if you ask me. I loved his vocals during the “When the sun goes down” part. The dancers were a bit bizarre. I wonder how this performance will help their popularity. I doubt they give a shit anyway.

I will be seeing them in less than a week at Terminal 5, and I am beyond ecstatic. Are any of you guys going?

Here is the video and a mp3 for you guys:
