Dizzee Rascal is a very unique british rapper, to say the least. I have to admit, there are times that I cannot understand a word that he says. With that said, I would rather listen to him then pretty much any rapper that is dominating the top 40 charts these days.
Zane Lowe debuted Dizzee’s new song “Holiday” the other day, praising it to death. The song features Chrome, and was produced by Calvin Harris. Therefore, it is very dancey/pop friendly. This is a very different sound from the “grime rap” sound that he trademarked on albums like Boy In Da Corner. The same album that won him the Mercury Prize back in ‘03!
I’m sure that it will do very well on the British radio charts, but I am not sure how the “scene” will react to it. I think it is a pretty catchy song, but I am not completely sold on this direction Dizzee has taken. Will people see this as a more fun side of Dizzee, or him selling out for a more…mainstream direction? It follows the sound of Bonkers, making me wonder if he is completely walking away from his old style. They are both songs off his next album Tongue ‘n’ Cheek.
I got a low quality radio rip from the show for you guys to get some idea for now. I’d love to hear your thoughts, cause my mind isn’t quite made up yet.

thanks for the dizzee track, i think i like it (only listened thru once so far) i also think that he is one of the few artists to manage to do ‘poppier’ tracks and keep his ‘grindie’ integrity with his, in my opinion, blistering live shows. there is a fine line between selling out and expanding your fanbase , but i think he has done the latter.
keep up the good work, yours is the first music blog i hit every day, and i guess i match your tastes 80 percent of the time, but always agree on the arctics views. tentatively looking forward t o ‘humbug’ and the live shows i hope will start soon after.
