Today is a good day. Hours before the lads first single from Humbug was due to debut on Zane Lowes BBC radio show, I find a good mp3 floating around already. “Crying Lightning” is an absolute tune, one that really demonstrates the growth of the band. The song doesn’t stray too far from the live version that the band have been playing live…..but it really shines in the studio version. Alex Turner’s singing style has also changed, fitting the bands darker style better.
I couldn’t really be happier with the song, they did a great job with it. If you don’t like it at first, keep listening. This isn’t as immediate as their past first singles, but I think this may possible become their best over time. Alex Turners voice sounds as low as ever at one point, Helders pounds the drums in a military fashion, and you got timely backing vocals. The chorus has been stuck in my head all day.
I love the new direction they are headed into. The band hasn’t pulled a 360 change, but they have really come along quite a bit since 2005. I am dying to hear how the rest of Humbug comes out. The band is more mature, and there is plenty to SHOUT FOR.

thanks
thankyou..!!!
I love it… it sounds, yeah.. pretty dark, love those riffs .__.
Cheers from Mexico, love the page <3!
With Turner still stuck on crooning like a sinister Scott Walker from the puppets he’s never sounded better, and a rare thing for the monkeys, sounds confident and comfortable. Definately gives alot to be excited about the upcoming album. Crying lightning combines everything they’ve learned to date, (other than the solo, which while cool as any before, sounds like they gave homme the guitar with note: insert solo). But still a great musical change from their 3rd wave strokes Hammond jr chord jabbing begining now sounding more like a twisted midnight circus, and its Biserk as Fuck!
Love the track, loved it from the first listen but it is still growing on me.
Once again Turner’s lyrics are sublime yet subtle.
I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album and by the looks of it hear a darker more mature Arctic Monkeys.
Chris
I really like it, reminds me of Bauhaus. Very cool!
