Harry Patch. You probably have no idea who that is. I didn’t either, until this new Radiohead song was released.
Harry Patch was the last living UK World War 1 Veteran. Yes…world war fucking 1. He was 111 years young. Radiohead recently released a single in order to make sure he is not forgotten. The song is for a good cause too. The song is a tribute to Harry, as well as a fundraiser for the Royal British Legion.
What a tribute it is. Johnny Greenwood adds haunting strings that echo the abundance of history that surrounded this man. Thom’s signature vocals are as good as ever, making us all wish that this was more than a one off single.
We will have to wait a while for a new Radiohead album, but this song should hold us over for now!
[mp3] :Radiohead – Harry Patch (In Memory Of)
Please purchase the song here if you liked it after sampling it. It is only a little over a buck, and it goes to a good cause.
Buy it at Dead Air Space.

Believe it or not…the last spouse of a Civil War vet died just last year…and there are still a few Civil War dependents still alive.

yeh harry patch – obviously not such a big thing in the states but was last living survivor or the 1st world war, not only that he is exceptional among other survivors because he was in the infantry, and fought in alot of the major battles, e.g. paschendale and the somme; very few of the other vets had been through all of that. he refused to mention the war untill he was 100 years old…it was called the ‘war to end all wars’ because it was so horrific – the somme saw 20,000 british deaths on the first day alone, paschendale saw 300,000 deaths during the course of the fighting, unlike anything seen since.

I don’t think you should have this as a download, even if you are advising people buy it. Can’t you just stream it?

I too do not think that you should be allowing downloads of this, after all this is for charity.
