[New] Death Cab For Cutie – Meet Me On The Equinox

By Will, September 19th 2009 — with 3 comments

For some reason unknown to me, the twilight movie sequel has a totally kickass indie sountrack. So far Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, Thom Yorke are all lined up to release a new song on the Twilight soundtrack. Death Cab for Cutie and The Killers are also on the soundtrack. Who knew that I would ever have interest in anything involving that damn series?

The new Death Cab For Cutie is called “Meet Me On The Equinox”. Death Cab have never let me down, I don’t care what the hipsters say. So what that they got popular, they are still the same band. They are just maturing and honing in on their sound. Get over it!

This is a cool song, very Death Cab For Cutie. Which means I like it. It will do well being on this soundtrack. It will make all the vampire wanna-be’s swoon at night. Yeah..that was cheesy as fuck.

Taken By Trees – My Boys (Animal Collective Cover)

By Will, September 18th 2009 — with 1 comment

Sure, it may be “My Boys” instead of “My Girls”, but this is still a Animal Collective cover. A mighty good one at that.

Taken By Trees is the project of Victoria Bergsman, a Swedish singer and songwriter that you all have probably have heard of, without even knowing it! She is the female singer who sings on Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks”.

Taken By Tree’s second album East Of Eden came out earlier this month, and they included their stellar Animal Collective on it.

The lyrics are changed a bit to suit to songs title, and it sounds a lot warmer and gentler. It’s goooood. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!!

[NEW] Julian Casablancas – 11th Dimension

By Will, September 18th 2009 — with 5 comments

AH!!!! Finally the first leakage from my heavily anticipated debut solo album Phrazes For The Young, from The Strokes lead man Julian Casablancas. The song is called “11th Dimension, and holy shit, it’s really good!!

It sounds very futuristic. A lot of cool sounds going on. Tribal influenced drums, clean synths, funky bassline, Strokes guitars, and of course, the wonderful voice of Julian. The chorus is an eargasm!!

This is a really cool song, I am very impressed!! Julian sounds fresh. It sounds even better than I hoped. He sounds like a new born man!!!

It cuts off at the end, but it will do for now. Where is the rest of this album?? I’ve had this playing 3 times in a row, it’s that good! How about a 4th?

Yeah, it’s that good!

Phrazes For The Young comes out October 20th!

Pavement Reunion Tour

By Will, September 17th 2009

Lo and behold! Pavement is reuniting for a world tour in 2010! Millions of hipsters just made a mess in their very tight jeans.

As for now, the only details are one show in NYC on September 21st, 2010 in Rumsey Playfield @ Central Park. It is a tuesday, and I will be stuck upstate at college, but I may just have to make a nighttime drive down for this pretty big event!!

This doesn’t necessarily mean a new album however, a reuniting tour seems to be the only plans at the moment.

The other dates are not announced yet, but they are coming. Tickets go on sale @ 10am tomorrow.

God help me! PPPlease let me wake up tomorrow!!!!!

Arctic Monkeys – Diamonds Are Forever (Studio Version)

By Will, September 17th 2009 — with 1 comment

Being the Arctic Monkeys super fan that I am, I have seen their live Glastonbury cover of  Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever” a countless number of times. In the back of my mind, I was always wishing it came out officially on a studio release.

Little did I know that there has been one for a while. Their label domino released the Arctic’s awesome studio version of the Shirley Bassey cover, back in January of 2008 on their All The Rage compilation.

This cover is not to be missed. I can’t believe I let this studio version by me!

This is an absolutely brilliant cover! Arctic’s are one of a kind!!

Monsters Of Folk – Whole Lotta Losin’ & Ahead of the Curve

By Will, September 16th 2009 — with 1 comment

Monsters Of Folk are the totally awesome super-group of Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), M. Ward (She & Him) and Mike Mogis (who has played with Bright Eyes & M. Ward) . Their album comes out next week, but here are two stellar songs from the album that recently went drip, drip.

The album consists of 14 solid songs of rootsy, soulful, folk rock. I mean these are all solid musicians, there was no doubt that this project would be good.

The two songs that I wanted to share with you lovely readers are called “Whole Lotta Losin’” & “Ahead of the Curve”

“Whole Lotta Losin’ is a pretty upbeat country rocker, whic seems M. Ward influenced, while “Ahead of the Curve” is clearly a Conor Oberst track. Love the guitar in “ahead”.

The 4 Monsters Of Folk work off each others strengths, making a really enjoyable album. I am not a fan of country at all, but I wouldn’t mind listening to these 4 make country influenced rock any day.

Kid Cudi – Up, Up, And Away (The Wake And Bake Song)

By Will, September 15th 2009 — with 5 comments

I’m really starting to enjoy Kid Cudi’s debut album more and more very slowly. Every day I find new appreciation for another track. Right now “Up, Up, And Away (The Wake And Bake Song)” is satisfying my musical needs. What a realy cool guitar riff. The cool thing about Cudi is that he raps over anything. Here you got him rapping over a rock track, making it smooth and natural.

That is what Cudi brings to the game, and this is why he got praised to death. Rightfully so, this song is really good. Great chorus, great production, great album closer.

This song in up, up, and away from any rap on the radio right now. Cudi has a good reason to be waking and baking.

Cudi is playing at my college next month along with Third Eye Blind (random eh?). Can’t wait to check him out now that he is riding all this praise!!

Kanye Is SORRY

Kanye knows how to stir up some controversy. We all know what he did to Taylor Swift at the VMA’s, I don’t need to recap. But…..just encase you don’t know what happened, here is a video:

YouTube Preview Image

I love you Kanye, but what were you thinking?

Standard controversial Kanye post! Everyone else is doing it…I felt left out.

Kanye’s done a lot worse…we can all agree on that. This incident isn’t going to help people’s opinions on him either…. He just made this awkward for everyone, not just himself this time. I could care less about Taylor Swift, but you can’t help feel sorry for her. She was in the middle of an awkward situation. Kanye could have done that to Lady GaGa to defend his boy Cudi instead.

It was a dick move, but it is Kanye. I’m still a fan. And hey, if it wasn’t for what he did last night, no one would be even talking about the VMA’s. Now the whole world is talking, blogging, and ranting via facebook status. It’s embaressing to watch that video though, I don’t know what he was thinking….. P.S. props to Beyonce for doing what she did..that was cool.

Kanye did apologize, but who knows if he sobered up in time for it…(its no longer on his blog though…). Here is a photo of his apology that he posted on his blog.

Here are some Kanye songs to remember the good, and less of his bad….

[new] Wolfmother – New Moon Rising & (YACHT Remix)N

By Will, September 13th 2009 — with 2 comments

Wolfmother keeps on surprising me. I lost all hope in the band after 2/3 of the band walked out on frontman Andrew Stockdale. They now have 3 other new members, but are keeping the Wolfmother name going strong.

The first single from their new album Cosmic Egg is called “New Moon Rising”. To tell you the truth, Wolfmother sounds just as good as they did with the other two missing members. They have changed their sound up a little, but this is still very much Wolfmother.

I also found this really cool YACHT Remix of the song that makes the rocking track into a enjoyable dance track.

I’m interested to see how the rest of Cosmic Egg flares out!
