[NEW] Pearl Jam – Just Breathe & Got Some

By Will, September 12th 2009

We all know that Pearl Jam bring the rock. They are pretty much the standard of grunge rock. Their new album Backspacer graced the internet yesterday, and thousands, if not millions of people are annoying their neighbors and roomates right now by blasting it. Pearl Jam is back!!!

“Got Some” is a rocker that I loved from the start. All of Pearl Jam’s best comes out to the forefront here. This song was recorded really well, you can hear every little detail. Great chorus, and instrumental work all around. Vedder is really involved here, his voice is truly one of a kind!!!

“Just Breathe” displays the other side of Pearl Jam. Vedder puts his all emotionally in this stripped down acoustic. Calming guitars, and the warmth of Eddie Vedder’s voice. Lyrically this may be my favorite song off the album. Heartbreaking lyrics about appreciating you loved one.

oh, i’m a lucky man, to count on both hands the ones i love..
some folks just have one.. yeah others they got none.

Pearl Jam fans have plenty to be happy about. Their band just released another amazing album, to add to their incredible discography.

Muse – Unnatural Selection

By Will, September 11th 2009 — with 4 comments

Muse always please find ways to rock my speakers. They don’t just rock, they rock in a grand fashion! A great new example of this epicness is Unnatural Selection. It is off their upcoming new album The Resistance, and I think you should hear it.

This song has everything that I love in Muse summed up in about 7 minutes of epic, dramatic, space-opera, apocalyptic, rock and roll. The guitar riff’s in Unnatural Selection are just a rockin’ good time. It wouldn’t be out of place on Origin Of Symmetry.

The song just builds and builds over the nasty guitar riff. The chorus is big and cheesy, but that is why we love it. This song displays all the best qualities of Muse. Have fun listening to it, and rock out. This song must be absolutely fantastic live!!!

I am getting through Kid Cudi’s hotly anticipated debut album Man On The Moon: The End Of Day right now, but don’t quite have a solid opinion yet. I am enjoying it, but I am not sure exactly how much.

It is quite diverse for a hip hop record. Cudi sounds so fresh when you look at the rest of the stale hip-hop scene. He has combined indie and hip-hop successfully, which is rarely done these days.

Here is are two tracks that really stood out to me (aside from the obvious winner that is Day N Nite). The first is called “Soundtrack 2 My Life” and the 2nd is “Pursuit of Happiness” which features both MGMT & Ratatat. “Soundtrack 2 My Life” stood out right away. A great beat, cool background, and slick rhymes. This is dope.

Gotta love this line: “I Got 99 Problems & They All Bitches.”

“Pursuit Of Happiness is a pretty great collaboration of 3 very different but unique artists. Ratatat do their thing making their Ratatat guitars while MGMT provide some great vocal moments alongside Cudi’s rapping. This works way too good. This was a brilliant idea!! This song is beyond chill.

[new] Los Campesinos! – The Sea Is A Good Place To Think Of The Future

By Will, September 9th 2009 — with 6 comments

Los Campesinos! are one of the more energetic bands out there.  Their new song “The Sea Is A Good Place To Think Of The Future” is a bit slow for them, but it is still another great song from the band. They have been one of the hardest working bands in the business, and they are getting ready to release their 3rd album sometime next year.

This track is a bit murky with depressing lyrics & Sigur Ros like guitars that show another aspect to the band. It isn’t spunky like “You! Me! Dancing!”, but it is very good in its own right!

The “originators of trip hop” Massive Attack are back with a new EP and the world is ready for them once again. The EP is called Splitting The Atom, and so far there are two tracks out there for you to relish in.

This is my first time listening to the Bristol duo, and I am really enjoying them. Their moody trip hop really does wonders with some good headphones late at night.

The two tracks that I have are Pray For Rain (which features Tunde Adebimpe from TV On The Radio), and the title track “Splitting The Atom featuring The 3D, Daddy G, and Horace Andy.

There is a lot going on in each track. So many different genres and styles blended into one form of music. To call these guys unique wouldn’t be doing them enough justice. They pick guest vocalists for their songs, and each one is picked with care. Both songs featuring perfect vocalists that only benefit them. TVOTR’s Tunde Adebimpe is beyond awesome on Pray For Rain.

Get a taste:

[new] Voxtrot – Berlin, Without Return

By Will, September 8th 2009 — with 1 comment

This isn’t quite “brand new” Voxtrot, but unless you follow the band religiously like me, you probably didn’t hear about their relatively small new single release. The single is called “Berlin, Without Return”. It also contains the b-side “The Dream Lives of Ordinary People”. The vinyl release came out June 29th & was limited to 400 copies, while the digital release came out on August 3rd.

The single got some decent appreciation from devoted Voxtrot bloggers, but definitely not the same type of blog love that their debut EP’s got. It may be because a lot of people were disappointed with their debut album and lost hope. That is a damn shame, because this single release is very, very, solid. Both songs are equally awesome, bringing back the same feelings that their EP brought.

These are good, good, feelings.

Anyone who was disappointed with their album, needs not to worry. The Voxtrot that you love is back.

[NEW] Muse – Undisclosed Desires

By Will, September 7th 2009 — with 2 comments

Another new Muse track from The Resistance has leaked. It’s called “Undisclosed Desires”. It is both very familiar to Muse’s old sound, but also very different. It sounds very futuristic and danceable. They have some cool vocals and strings that give it a unique sound.

Not blown away but it’s enjoyable enough. Muse always make fun music that you can always put on, and I guess at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

Muse Play 3 New Songs Live

By Will, September 5th 2009

Muse played a homecoming gig last night, and played 2 unheard of songs (until now!!) from their upcoming album The Resistance. They played the epic “Unnatural Selection” (think Stockholm Syndrome epic, I’m really digging this one!!!), title track “The Resistance”, as well as the already leaked single “Uprising”.

They sound absolutely ace live, and they only make me miss seeing Muse live more than before. I have high hopes for a nice dramatic prog rock album with The Resistance.

[New] Editors – Papillon

By Will, September 5th 2009 — with 2 comments

Have Editors been hanging out with Bloc Party? Who gave them the synths??

A new song has surfaced called “Papillon”, and it is very different from anything the Editors have ever done. It is very “new wave” and definitely a big departure from their old sound. I am not blown away, but I do like that they are trying something new. Not sure if his voice fits this type of music, but I will reserve full judgment for when I hear the rest of the record.

It will be off their upcoming 3rd album In This Light and On This Evening, which comes out on October 12th.

[New] Atlas Sound – Shelia

By Will, September 4th 2009 — with 2 comments

Atlas Sound’s new album Logos has leaked online, and it is getting amazing praise…like it should be. Bradford Cox, one of the finest indie musicians out there has done it again. Right away, the song Shelia stood out to me. It grabs you from the first second, and won’t let you go. It is perfect in pretty much every way. There isn’t a whole hell of a lot going on, but his voice surrounding the pretty acoustic guitar is all it needs to soar. Sometimes the simplest things turn out to be the best.

This song literally impressed me from the start. I still need to fully invest more time into Logos, but for now Shelia on repeat all weekend would do no harm!
