Wavves – Weed Demon (DUSTLOOP Remix)

By Will, October 17th 2009

Good remix’s are hard to come by. I’m talking about really good remix’s!! I hate how hypem is cluttered with mediocre remixes posted just to get hits. I want to listen to the real good remix’s that take a song to a new level. Remix man Dustloop does this with his remix of Wavves “Weed Demon”

Dustloop sent this to me via soundcloud, and I was surprised at how awesome the remix. I enjoyed this a lot more than the original, which is rare. I usually never prefer remix’s to the original song.

I’m not too sure how i feel about Wavves. Some songs like “So Bored” are pretty cool, but other songs just sound like noise. I should decide soon, or maybe I’ll be a conforming hipster and let pitchfork decide for me. Therefore, I like them!

This DUSTLOOP remix sounds like a pleasant dream in my head. It’s GOOD.

Bye Bye Bayou (Ernold Sane Edit)

By Will, October 17th 2009 — with 2 comments

Ernold Sane remix’s the  recently posted LCD Soundsystem one off single; “Bte Bye Bayou”. I can jam to this! It’s 3am (I prepare posts early most of the time), and I am dead after driving home from school, then going to game 1 of the Yankees ALCS series with the Angels. I am beat.

This is a cool remix to listen to during your Saturday party/relaxation time.

Learn more about Ernold Sane at his myspace.

[NEW] Big Boi – Shine Blockas (Feat. Gucci Mane)

By Will, October 16th 2009 — with 1 comment

Outkast’s very own Big Boi is planning release his first solo album “Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty” that should be out sometime this fall.

One of the album’s tracks “Shine Blockas” is receiving a lot of good praise all over the ‘net right now. Rightfully so, this is a very strong track. It isn’t surprising, after all, this is 50% of the genius that we know as Outkast.

Very chill!!!

Arctic Monkeys Announce More U.S. Tour Dates!

By Will, October 16th 2009 — with 2 comments

Thank god, the Arctic’s are coming back to the states this December! I didn’t get to see a proper show on this “Humbug” tour yet! I saw them at All Points West, but that was a less than satisfying set for obvious reasons.

Here is the short run they will be doing at the end of this year:

December 6th, 2009 – Chicago, IL @ Riviera Theatre
December 7th, 2009 – Pittsburgh, PA @ Mr. Smalls Theatre
December 8th, 2009 – Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club
December 11th, 2009 – New York, NY @ Terminal 5
December 13th, 2009 – Boston, MA @ House of Blues
December 14th, 2009 – Montreal, CA @ Metropolis

The supporting band will be Screaming Females (who support the Kooks everynight), who I am unfamiliar with. Time to get familiar!

I am broke as hell right now, but I am going to find my way to that Terminal 5 show! Come join me!

The official video for “Cornerstone” has arrived, and it is really good! It is not quite what I expected. I expected a more stereotypical romance music video. However, this video is really simple, and a lot more effective.

It just consists of a camera filming lead singer Alex Turner singing to the camera. Alex is quite comical is a refrained way.

Cheers for the Arctic Monkeys for keeping things fresh as usual! Love them! <3

Preview Julian Casablancas’s Phrazes For The Young!

By Will, October 15th 2009 — with 2 comments

Amazon.com has 30 second samples of all the songs on Julian’s debut album Phrazes For The Young! Lead song “Out Of The Blue” sounds stunning! It also sounds very Strokes-esque, which may explain why I love it! Even if it is a bit prematurely!

Check it and pre-order it here!!!

[NEW] LCD Soundsystem – Bye Bye Bayou

By Will, October 15th 2009 — with 3 comments

Holy smokes new LCD Soundystem! I feel like they have disappeared off the face of the earth since I saw them live with Arcade Fire on 10/6/07 at Randall’s Island! Same goes for Arcade Fire as well, now that I think about it!

I digress! The point is, we finally have new LCD Soundsystem!! The first new music from them since Sounds Of Silver! It isn’t going to be off their eventual 2010 new album. However, it is a separate single of a cover of an Alan Vega (Suicide) song.

James Murphey and friends are able to take this 80′s sounding dance song, extending it to 8 minutes, and making it their own. LCD Soundsystem are known for their incredible work, why should this cover be any different?

-The single is officially released November 12th as a 12′ vinyl.

Grizzly Bear performed Two Weeks w/ Victoria the other night on Conan, and it was great, as always! Watch it below!

[NEW] Weezer – I’m Your Daddy

By Will, October 14th 2009 — with 4 comments

A new Weezer song has said hello to me, and I figured you would be pleased to hear it. It is called “I’m Your Daddy” and it is on their new album Raditude.

If you remember, I posted about some new songs that they played live in Japan. One of them was “I’m Your Daddy”. I hated the live version, it sounded really lame.

I actually do not hate the recorded version like I thought I would. It actually has a pretty cool chorus, one that I can stand. This song sounds really good if you don’t really pay attention to the lyrics, or over-analyze it. It is just fun pop music. It isn’t a great song, but it is pretty much power cord rock with a Weezer friendly chorus. The lyrics aren’t River’s finest moment, I won’t argue that. However, this song isn’t that much different from songs like “Beverly Hills” that were also pretty poppy.

I take back the hate that I showed the live version. I don’t hate it anymore. It has been stuck in my head since last night! Is it a guilty pleasure, or is it ok that I like it since it’s from Weezer? I don’t know. I’m sure that tons of people will hate on this song, but it really isn’t as bad as we all expected from the live video that we saw. It’s at least somewhat listenable. Weezer are one of my all time favorites, I grew up with them. I always have a spot for Weezer in my musical heart.

I also found a live cover of The Clash’s classic “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” by Weezer. Similarly, Weezer are just having fun with it. I think this one is an itunes exclusive! (sah-weet!)

At least we know Weezer are enjoying themselves lately…

Arctic Monkeys : Cornerstone [Single Details]

By Will, October 13th 2009 — with 2 comments

Arctic Monkeys made the very wise choice of picking “Cornerstone” as the 2nd official single from Humbug. It is by far my favorite song from Humbug, and it may just be my favorite Arctic Monkeys track at the moment. (My all time favorite will always be A Certain Romance).

This announcement was actually made last week, but I put it off until now. It actually worked out because the groovey album art that you see for the single just came out today!

Here are the details of the release, which includes the format of the realeases, along with the b-sides. You know, the stuff you really care about!

Here they are:

7″ Vinyl

A: Cornerstone
B: Catapult
10 ” Vinyl

A: Cornerstone
A1: Catapult
B: Sketchead
B1: Fright Lined Dining Room
Digital Download
1. Cornerstone
2. Catapult
3. Sketchead
4. Fright Lined Dining Room

Sketchead was already released as an itunes exclusive, so that is included just to get it out there physically. The other two b-sides are “Catapult” & “Fright Lined Dining Room”, both songs that I have never heard of. New material is always good, especially when they are b-sides. Arctic Monkeys have to rival Oasis with some of the strongest b-sides of all time!

The video for “Cornerstone” will debut on TV in the UK on Thursday, so check back then for the proper Youtube link or two.

The single is due out November 16th!
