Phoenix – La Blogotheque Performance

La Blogotheque, a.k.a. Vincent Moon is really challenging any other music filmmaker to up the anti. Is there anyother filmaker who can capture the heart and soul of a song through the camera lens? Through his video recordings, he gives the songs different life, allowing us to see them in a completely new perspective.

Phoenix is his latest band of choice. He caught them performing on the streets of Paris, France – Phoenix’s home town. The video of “1901″ is one of my alltime favorites now. The acoustic performance is tight as hell, but that isn’t even the best part about the video! He manages to capture Paris at the perfect moment. With the band in the heat of performance, he captures shots of a couple who just got married, standing by watching among the many onlookers grabing a glimpse of the performance. He really knows how to make the song a part of the moment through his camera angles and timing. You gotta love the end of “1901″ when a guy is amazed that no one recognized Phoenix on the streets. The band themselves are shocked he recognizes them and he says “Yeah, I own your CD”! Really cool stuff!
