My friends Local Natives got mentioned on pitchfork today as the “Rising Band” of the day!!! They have been one of my favorite bands ever since I discovered them last December. Since then, I have tried to get the word out. I still remember hearing Local Natives for the first time last year, and how blown away I was by this incredibly talented young band from LA!
They did not need my help at all! With their reputation built as a unbelievable live force, they wowed crowds at SXSW this year. They released a great Talking Heads cover, and one of the best songs of the entire year in “Airplanes”. I have been rooting for them to get big, and things have been going there way. They released their debut album Gorilla Manor in the UK, and now they have signed with Frenchkiss Records in order to finally get the album out in the US next February.
Pitchfork is backing the band now, which can only help the band get out to a wider audience. Read their interview with the band below, and find out why they think these 5 guys from LA are going to have a dominating 2009!

I’ve been happy to see them get some notice as well after I started following them as a result of your post last year. Hopefully they’ll get that coveted Best New Music at P4K when Gorilla Manor comes out in the US. Thanks for blogging about them though, I probably wouldn’t have heard about them until now otherwise!
