[new] Final Fantasy – Lewis Takes Action

Final Fantasy is the moniker of a young genius named, Owen Pallett. He is a singer-songwriter, composer, and a violinist. He hails from straight north of me up in Canada. He is hailed as one of the more original musicians of modern rock. He is also known as the guy who does string arrangements for tons of great indie bands. He gets credit for working on string arangements for artists like Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, and The Last Shadow Puppets.

I may go see him when he comes to NYC in January during my winter break! I feel like he would put on an excellent show!

His 3rd album comes out on January 12th, of the new year.  It’s called Heartland, and it features the song “Lewis Taks Action” which was made available for free download on the Domino Records website.

The song demonstrates Owen Pallett’s many talents. He is able to compose a unique song with beautiful arrangements and sounds that you could only hear from Final Fantasy. It is pretty hard to compare these guys to another band, they are truly a unique band.

Check out “Lewis Takes Action” below. Don’t give up on it if it doesn’t amaze you right away. Let it settle in your palate for a bit! (you see what I did there? – Owen Pallett…palate…yea….)

Very few people recognize Owen’s genius, and it’s nice to see another blog making a post about him. I absolutely love him, so thanks for the link!

I was really impressed with his orchestration. I especially liked his use of winds and horns, but I was really unimpressed with the vocal melody. Having said that, I plan on getting this album when it comes out. His instrumentation alone is reason to listen to him. I just hope that is not the only trick he has in his bag on this upcoming album.

Definitely getting his album when it comes out. I haven’t seen him live either but I heard that he kills it. He’s coming to SF in Feb but I’ll still be on crutches. We’ll see … the notion of missing him is soul crushing!!!!!!!
