[new] Portishead – Chase The Tear

I have a long list of bands that I should probably invest more time into. There is just an abundance of good music out these days, it is so hard to concentrate on just one artist! I feel like I have a pretty dense musical knowledge for a 19 year old, yet, I still have plenty of bands that I should listen to more often! Such as: Portishead.

Portishead are a mysterious trip-hop band that are regarded highly by pretty much everyone. I have listened to some of their stuff and have had some trouble really getting myself into it. Don’t get me wrong they are very talented. Songs like “Machine Gun” and “Glory Box” are brilliant pieces of work. However, I am still waiting for things to click.

Guess what?? They just may have! They have released a new single called “Chase The Tear” through Amnesty International and it is something else!!

Portishead are basically their own genre. I cannot really think of a band that even comes close in comparison! “Chase The Tear” sounds equally as dark as it does danceable. The beat is infectious, while the vocals are haunting. You get the best of both worlds! This song in particular reminds me of something that the Knife would do. I love The Knife, so that is a very good thing! The word off the street is that Portishead are working on a new album too, so keep a look out for that!

Thanks for the steam – definitely a nice track, Beth always makes anything sound great. They are finding themselves in a more electronic stage as opposed to slightly orchestral of the past, but this is the new Portishead. One of my all time favourite bands…”Dummy” changed my life and was one of the reasons I became a music nerd. ;-)
