[MP3 + Video] Warpaint – Elephants

By Will, January 5th 2010 — with 2 comments

Everyone is done with their holiday, and that means an absolute overload of press mail from record labels and PR companies! I love it! Except when I get press emails about Pink. I guess they don’t read my blog! For the most part most of the email today was rubbish, but there were a few gems. I did get enlightened with some great new music, with bands such as Warpaint in the mix!

Warpaint debuted the video for their excellent song “Elephants” which will be on their EP, Exquisite Corpse. There is plenty to love about the song. The 70′s vibe, frantic guitar, sexy bassline. It sounds frantic, urgent, and dreamy. These girls have a sound that is going to be eaten up by fans of Cat Power.

Warpaint is a fresh discovery. There songs really caught my attention from the get-go. Something about their sound caught my ear, and would not let go. Their music is pretty immediate and shows enough depth so that you begin to notice new things as you continue to hit replay. There is no doubt in my mind that Warpaint is a must watch act for 2010! I’m in love!

Grab Elephants and Billie Holiday below, both of which are from Exquisite Corpse. You can also watch the video for Elephants after the mp3s

[NEW] Massive Attack – Pysche

By Will, January 5th 2010 — with 8 comments

Trip-Hop legends Massive Attack have not released an album since 100th Window’s 2003 release! That is seven years, a long time by any fans standards! I think we can all agree that people are anticipating the bands new album, Heligoland.

Heligoland was recently played on the radio, and some fans were smart enough to radio rip the album, and as you can guess I found a rip of one of the songs. I have a radio rip of the song “Pysche” which features the vocals from singer Martina Topley-Bird. The rip does have an introduction from the DJ, but aside from that it is an excellent radio rip. The quality is very good considering!

The song is minimalistic focused on the smooth plucking of an acoustic guitar tied together with a looping trip hop beat. Topley-Bird’s vocals are a perfect fit for “Pysche. I believe that this is an “exclusive” in ways:

I approve of this, and I think Massive Attack fans are jumping around full of joy to this! Not only because it is a great song, but because they finally have new Massive Attack! Other than theSplitting The Atom EP that they released last October.

New Material From The Knife!

By Will, January 5th 2010 — with 4 comments

I was reading Sheena Beaston (who moved to a new site – it’s looking good Hannah!) and discovered some worthwhile information thanks to her! The mysteriously awesome electronic duo The Knife are back! They are going to use SoundCloud to post new material in the upcoming days via the Knife Soundcloud page. Soundcloud announced this via their twitter.

The Knife gave us some of the best electronic music of the decade, we can only hope that we are delighted in the same way during this new decade! 2010 is shaping up to be quite the year for music, huh?

Vampire Weekend – Cousinz (Toy Selectah Mex-More Remix)

By Will, January 5th 2010 — with 1 comment

Tired of Vampire Weekend yet? I’m not! Its a Vampire WEEK here at We All Want Someone To Shout For!

I found this remix thanks to Pretty Much Amazing and thought I would delight you with its good graces this afternoon! This remix of “Cousins” came out of left field, totally unexpected. It came from DJ/Producer Toy Selectah. He takes Ezra’s vocals on top of a his own beat and mixes in “Cousins” instrumentation to create an absolute frenzy of a song.

Take a break from your obsessive digesting of Contra and chill with this remix for a bit!

[Video] Vampire Weekend – White Sky (Live, Juan’s Basement)

By Will, January 5th 2010 — with 1 comment

Another excellent clip of Vampire Weekend’s session with pitchforks Juan’s Basement (who the hell is this Juan?). This time they performed White Sky. Last time it was Cousins. I love how Ezra’s rocking a Vampire Weekend shirt! The performance is gravy, as usual. Like you are surprised!

Current TV : Embedded

By Will, January 4th 2010 — with 1 comment

I got a promo email about Cold War Kids appearing on a TV series called Embedded that airs on the channel Current. I looked into “Embedded”  and discovered it is a show that focuses on a band documentary style. I found Current on TV (I have Verizon Fios – its channel 192), and I just happened to catch an episode of Embedded. It was focused on The Decemberists and the making of Hazards Of Love. In between the scenes they showed an interview with Passion Pit about their release party show on a boat, as well as a performance of Bon Iver on La Blogotheque.

Yes, this was all on TV!!!!!! Pretty sweat right?? I couldn’t believe how awesome this was! To find out more about Current, or the channel its’ on depending on your TV provider, go to their website! The next episode of Embedded features Cold War Kids! It’s on Wed @ 11!

27 Songs from Barcelona

By Will, January 4th 2010

Every then and again, a band finds a new way to make use of the Internet and supply us with a kick-ass way to release an album. It started with Radiohead, then blossomed to big bands like Nine Inch Nails to plenty of other small bands out there. It has revolutionized the way music is spread these days, and there is no reason not to.

Sweeden’s very own I’m From Barcelona would agree with what I just said! They just announced a very creative project, and album, known as 27 Songs From Barcelona. After being inspired by Kiss releasing 4 solo albums in 1978  the band decided to try and modernize the idea. I’m From Barcelona is not exactly…a tiny band. With a whooping 27 members, you would have to expect a bigger album. That’s just what they gave us!

Starting on January 27th (appropriate!), 2010 the band will release a song for free download on imfrombarcelona.com for 27 days. The album will also be available for purchase as a sweet triple vinyl. The album is sure to be an eclectic one as it features songs from each member, however they wanted to do it! It started as an idea from the bands very own member Emanuel, and branched out into a pretty creative idea! The only rule for each member’s song was that there was “no rules” and that probably is going to result in one eclectic group of songs.

The band posted this video to enlighten their fans, and inform the world of their project. You can get a taste of what you can expect to hear from the album in the video, and it sounds excellent!!!!

Contra Release Party

By Will, January 4th 2010 — with 4 comments

If you guys are in the NYC this Thursday, you better get your ass to this sweet party that XL Recording, Other Music, and Spin are hosting. It runs from 8 to midnight, you need to rsvp by sending an email to contra@spin.com. I already did so, and hopefully I will get in. This is probably going to be nuts, so get there early. You can bet I will be there, so if you see me don’t be shy!

The Stylus Decade

By Will, January 4th 2010

One of my favorite music websites/magazines by far was the excellent Stylus. They first caught my attention as a young music fan searching for some insight on the first part of this decade. I stumbled onto their Top 50 Albums of 2000-2005 and discovered tons of music from them. Sadly after 2007, they closed up shop and haven’t been heard from since!

However, one of their former Senior Writers, Nick Southhall decided that we deserved to hear from them one last time. Afterall, we are missing a Stylus Best Of The Decade list! He got the gang together, and compiled the list. This was a really pleasant surprise, and I am really glad they Stylus is finishing off the decade in style.

You can find out more about them through this introduction, and get started on seeing their list. They posted #100-81 for their top albums/singles.

These guys know there stuff, I trust there opinion pretty much more than anyone else out there! So head over to thestylusdecade.com and get educated on some fine music! Follow Nick on twitter to stay updated! Thanks for doing this Nick, you made a longtime Stylus fan quite happy!

Surfer Blood

By Will, January 4th 2010 — with 2 comments

I meant to post about this really great new band a lot sooner (as in December), but I waited on it too long and now I’m a bit late! It’s better to post it late than never, and with all things considered, I am still early! Surfer Blood are a fresh new band out of West Palm Beach, Florida. They are all set to release their debut album Astrocoast, on January 19th, and all indie publications are eating the band up! The love is not unwarranted! Surfer Blood write bold songs that are have an appropriate aesthetic for their name. Their songs are poppy, full of life, with reverbed vocals, and crisp guitars. The guitar work and tight vocals on their single, “Swim”, allows the song to song tall and mighty standing out from the lo-fi crowd. They may be lo-fi, but they don’t really sound it with their big ambitious sound. Check out Astrocoast’s leadoff song “Floating Vibes” to get blown away by their mighty guitar riffs. These boys are brand new, but already impressing.

If you are not sold by listening to the crafty “Swim”, you probably should try again. The song is a tune in every way. It is tightly constructed, with wicked hooks that don’t shy away from sounding like a pop anthem. It gives off a summer vibe, allowing the band to sound just as contemplative as  liberating.

Surfer Blood are a sure fire next big thing for 2010. You can expect big things from these boys in 2010, I promise.
