The GF’s Blog

By Will, February 13th 2010 — with 2 comments

You gotta take care of your girlfriend. Especially when she has her own blog. She loves music just as much as I do, and has found her own outlet for her obsession for things that sound like candy to the ears.

Her blog isn’t limited to just music though. She posts music, art, and just cool things that tickle the mind.

[mp3] The Morning Benders – Excuses (Yours Truly Session)

By Will, February 13th 2010 — with 6 comments

I finally figured out how to edit mp3′s and I gladly ripped the Morning Benders magnificent performance of “Excuses” from Your Truly. I posted the video a few days ago, and absolutely raved about it. You can read about the video’s background here, but by now your probably already saw this and have been patient waited for an mp3 (like a patient patient!). Here is this mp3, along with the video JUST in case you happened to miss it.

Now we can impatiently wait for the mp3 of the studio version of “Excuses” along with the rest of Big Echo!

[new] Frightened Rabbit – Nothing Like You

By Will, February 13th 2010 — with 3 comments

Frightened Rabbit really do remind me of a younger Snow Patrol. A hungry band out of the UK with a heavy accent that certainly leaves some female fans wanting more. I have been eagerly awaiting Frightened Rabbit’s followup to their excellent 2008 album The Midnight Organ Fight. Well, their new album The Winter Of Mixed Drinks is due out on March 9th, and I cannot wait!

I just found a low quality rip of the albums second single, “Nothing Like You”. It is a fast paced guitar anthem that has Frightened Rabbit’s usual keen sense of conveying emotion. It has a nice balance of sincerity and epicness that should satisfy all of Frightened Rabbit’s fan base. I noticed the song is a little — less depressing — than the stuff we last heard from the Scottish boys.

I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album! It’s sure to be a good one! The mp3 and video are below:

[Video]: Neon Indian – Terminally Chill/Ephemeral Artery

By Will, February 12th 2010 — with 1 comment

Neon Indian got to perform on Jimmy Fallon last night after Kings Of Convenience canceled. Fallon gave Neon Indian a call with an offer to play on two days notice. Alan Palomodidn’t pass it up. Neon Indian sounded phenomenal as a full band, tearing it up. They performed some of “Terminally Chill” and then went on to transition pretty nicely into “Ephemeral Artery”. The band sounded pretty great live, I was very surprised at well the band comes to life in the live setting! ?uestlove digged Neon Indian’s jams!

[new] Aloha – Moonless March/Waterwheel

By Will, February 12th 2010

“Moonless March” starts off with a thunderous drum beat, and turns into a delight for any true fan of rhythm. Add in Aloha’s ever so delicious vibrant synth’s to the mix and you got a winner. Aloha are known for their delightful music pop music that creatives sunny atmospheres and delivers memorable harmonies. Love the instrumental bridge towards the end, total synth pop/rock glory! They still do that on “Moonless”, and very much so. It’s just now the band has been around for over 10 years, and is sounding like a more confident band ready to start the new decade off right.

Aloha’s new album is called Home Acres, and it is going to be released on March 9th on PolyVinyl Records. “Waterwheel” see’s some very strong vocals from the band’s lead singer Tony Cavallario and a clean uplifting sound from the band. Production values have always been pretty high for Aloha, but it seems like they really put it at the forefront here.

You can Pre-Order Home Acres right here. I think this is going to creep on a lot of people as one of 2010′s best, if these songs are an indication of what else to expect on Home Acres.

[Video] The Strokes Recording LP4

By Will, February 12th 2010 — with 5 comments

I just posted about The Strokes not too long ago, and now a new video has surfaced from the bands camp, showing the recording process of their upcoming 4th album. It shows the band recording some songs, along with some of the downtime in the studio when the band has some fun.

This is very, very, cool video giving us some insight of what it’s like when The Strokes record.

The Strokes New Logo, Festival/Show Plans

By Will, February 12th 2010 — with 1 comment

According to NME there is a new Strokes Logo/Picutre, which you can view below:

The Strokes have two festivals gigs lined up (Isle Of Wright & Rock Ness on June 12, and 13th, respectively. Julian made a claim that these two festivals will be their only shows until the album is done. Apparently since that announcement, The Strokes scheduled to play at the Hurricane & Southside Festival . So who knows what the hell is going on. You never truly know with The strokes, do you??

I am still predicting (and begging) for them to show up at All Points West this summer. That would make my life complete!

The Killers Are Not Breaking Up!

By Will, February 12th 2010 — with 3 comments

My favorite non-hipster band probably is The Killers. So I deliver the message that they are not breaking up, with a great big smile. When I last posted about the Las Vegas rock stars, it seemed like they were! So…it was comforting to see the following official statement posted on The Killers website:

The Killers had hoped that the Australian leg of their current tour would be completed as planned, but due to the severity of the illness of a close family member, they regretfully announce the cancellation of their Sydney Enmore show as well as their shows at Good Vibrations Festival Sydney and Good Vibrations Festival Perth this weekend. The band apologizes to their Australian fans and asks for their understanding. The Killers still intend to perform at the Good Vibrations Festival’s Gold Coast and Melbourne shows next weekend. The Killers would also like to take this opportunity to assure their fans that any concerns about the future of the band are unfounded. They are all looking forward to some time off at the end of this tour as they have been on the road for a long time, but there are no plans for an indefinite hiatus.

Sa-weeeet. Hopefully this time off will allow the band to come back fresh and give us some more epic jams.

[Video] : The Antlers – Bear

By Will, February 12th 2010 — with 1 comment

The Antlers posted via their twitter that they have a new video for their excellent song “Bear” which was one of my favorite songs of 2009. It is a pretty cool video with the band running around in the snow, while lady tries to carry a big black ball around the woods, but does indeed drop the ball. Don’t worry, the Antlers are there to save the day!

Fever Ray’s Creepy Acceptance Speech @ P3 Guld Awards

By Will, February 12th 2010 — with 4 comments

Fever Ray won best dance artists at Sweden’s P3 Guld Awards and gave this pretty creepy acceptance speech. She had a melted face mask and decided to moan rather than give a speech. Way to be creepy Fever Ray! Gotta love her! I am a few weeks late on this, but if I missed it, I’m sure one or two of you may have as well…
