A new National song makes getting up early that much better. Lauren Laverne debuted the new The National single a few hours ago on BBC radio and a webrip is already out. I was surprised that Terrible Love wasn’t used as the single after their performance on Fallon. Bloodbuzz Ohio has been played plenty of times live, with most fans being familiar with it.
The song has layers of smart instrumentation creating a dramatic chorus that The National have become so good at crafting over the years. It is a solid song but I am not sure how it compares to a single such as Fake Empire just yet…Knowing The National I am expecting it to reveal itself even further with more listens today.
Overall, a very solid song. Can’t wait for High Violet.

For some reason this is one of my least favorites of theirs …. I wish Terrible Love was the first single! I am surprised too.

are you sure it’s their first official single? it may just be a song they let go of first, especially since it’s the one a lot of fans already know. was “fake empire” ever a single? “mistaken for strangers” was the first single off of Boxer and “lit up” the first off Alligator(their best album) and there are 5 songs on each i like better than the respective singles. ‘all the wine’ probably would have been the first single off Alligator had it already not been released before.

come to think of it, “abel” was first and then “lit up”

just got an email from them. looks like it’s not a single.

@Sky – Fake Empire was the 3rd single off Boxer. You are right though, it was released first but it wasn’t the first single.
I think Bloodbuzz Ohio is the first single. At least that is what the BBC DJ posted & there is artwork for Bloodbuzz Ohio from the 320 download.
