Eminem’s New Album is Recovery. (Relapse 2 Scrapped!)

By Will, April 14th 2010 — with 17 comments

June 22nd is the date of Eminem’s new album Recovery. He originally planned for a sequel for Relapse but he scrapped that idea and instead apparently recovered, hence the new title.

When asked about his dismissal of Relapse 2, Eminem had this to say:

“I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year, but as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title.”

I hope that this new series allows Eminem to find new motivation which will probably result in some of his freshest material in years. I’m begging you Em, we all truly miss the old you. Get angry again!

Conan O’Brien Covers “Creep”

By Will, April 14th 2010

Conan O’Brien covered Radiohead’s much covered hit “Creep” during sound check for his live comedy tour. Makes me regret not buying tickets. Oh well. Thankfully someone recorded it:

Conan’s impersonation of Thom Yorke is beyond hilarious. I miss him, but will gladly watch him on TBS (although I am scratching my head a bit).

Check out the music video for the morning benders fantastic Big Echo track, “Promises”.

The video plays as visual symbolism for the band’s regret for growing up to fast, not really appreciating the youth when they had it. Not really a traditional “emotional” song, but it hits hard for me especially since I am starting to leave behind my youth.

[NEW] The National – Afraid Of Everyone

By Will, April 13th 2010 — with 3 comments

I was in a bad mood just moments earlier after my beloved headphones crocked, but now I am happy. The National have given away “Afraid Of Everyone” as a free download from High Violet. It’s the second freebie from the album, and the National join Band Of Horses and The Hold Steady in the smart internet marking club. I am sorry I am late on sharing this with you. I just got out of class, and my dorms internet was fucking with me. Now I am back and ready to share the goods.

“Afraid Of Everyone” is track #5 on High Violet, standing as a middle beam for the album. I can understand their reasoning for placing it in the middle, it has a lot of backbone. With Sufjan Stevens on backing vocals, and an emotionally gripping up-build, it is one hell of a song.

I love BloodBuzz Ohio, but I could see it fitting on Boxer. This is not the case for “Afraid”. It’s darker, establishing a different mood from the band who has made a career out of creating many different moods and atmospheres. The production on the song puts the band trapped away in a dark forbidden basement, giving us something new and exciting. The last few minutes where the band hauntingly tells us “Your voice is swallowing my soul” is simply mesmerizing.

This is why The National have become one of my favorite bands. They simply never cease to amaze.

I also posted a new The National b-side Sin-Eaters, which you can listen to here.

[new] Band Of Horses – Laredo (Stream)

By Will, April 13th 2010 — with 1 comment

Earlier today Band Of Horses put another song from Infinite Arms up for early listening. This time we got “Laredo”. We already received two other songs from the album (Compliments & Factory) and now we got a third. “Laredo” is another strong offering from the album. Things are shaping up nicely for Infinite Arms, which comes out on 5/18. Stream the song below via this embeddable widget:

It seems like artists like Band Of Horses & The Hold Steady are starting to catch up with the times and realize that putting a few songs up for early listening helps create excitement for new albums. If you like what you hear, pre-order the album from insound on Vinyl or CD.

Credit to Muzzle Of Bees for making me aware of the stream.

[new] The National – Sin-Eaters (BloodBuzz Ohio B-Side)

By Will, April 13th 2010 — with 7 comments

Check out “Sin-Eaters, the accompanying b-side to the Bloodbuzz Ohio 7 inch below. It sounds compact and together, almost like a perfect companion of an Alligator era track such as “The Geese Of Beverly Road”. Around the 2 minute mark they break out one of the moodiest (and fuzziest) guitar riffs that I’ve heard from The National yet. Throughout the song, the band seem to be on the break of breaking out a major moment during the song, but they never quite do. That is alright though, it’s just a b-side, and a pretty good one at that.

R.I.P. Supergrass

By Will, April 12th 2010

Unfortunately not everything I post is going to be good news. Sometimes shit happens. Much earlier today, longstanding Britpop band Supergrass broke up after making 6 albums over the course of 17 years together. T

he worst part is, I was just starting to get into Supergrass over the last few months. Go figure.

The band made the following statement as to why they broke up:

“Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. We still love each other but, cliché notwithstanding, musical differences have led to us moving on and of course we all wish each other well in the future.”

The band will play 4 farewell shows. The dates are posted below. You gotta bet people are going to be paying a fortune for these ones:

06-08 Glasgow, Scotland – Barrowland
06-09 Manchester, England – Academy
06-10 London, England – O2 Brixton Academy
06-11 Paris, France – La Cigalle

Here is one of my favorite Supergrass songs, “Sun Hits The Sky”:

[Highly Recommended mp3]: Kisses – Bermuda

By Will, April 12th 2010 — with 2 comments

Kisses are a duo from Los Angeles consisting of Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson. They are slowly, but steadily creating a name for themselves on the disco/electronic underground scene. They are in preparation to release their first single “Bermuda”.

“Bermuda” was chosen to be the first single released in anticipation for their debut album The Heart Of The Nightlife. It will be released on April 27th via Surround Sound Records, accompanied with a remix by Active Child as the b-side. Jens Lekman’s vocals over 80′s dance music might be the easiest description of Kisses. It sounds too good to be true right? Well with “Bermuda” anything is possible. The song sounds like a ecstasy filled dream that you never want to leave. Just hit repeat, and you don’t have to.

Stay tuned for more on these guys. Trust me when I say they are going places, because they certainly are. I’m excited to see where!

Download the song below. I threw in their remix of Lake Heartbeat’s song “Southbound” as well:
