Barbara – Pursuit Of Happiness (Kid Cudi Cover)

By Will, April 28th 2010 — with 2 comments

This one has been around for a while, but I never got around to posting it. Some of my favorite bloggers (Pigeons and Planes & The Music Ninja) posted it a while back and I have been meaning to post it since. I am as late as can be, but I still wanted to get it out there just for the few of you who haven’t heard this yet, because I’m sure there are some of you out there.

It’s a really chill alt-country cover of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit Of Happiness” done by Barbara. It’s a nice relaxing take on the song. Check it out:

[new] Kele – Tenderoni (Stream)

By Will, April 28th 2010

“Tenderoni” is the first single from Kele, who you all know as the frontman of Bloc Party. It comes off his debut solo album The Boxer. Kele went solo in order to tackle his interest in electronic dance music that started to emerge with Bloc Party’s Intimacy.

“Tenderoni” is an extremely fun piece of electronic pop that is a perfect partner in crime for the hot summer air. It certainly hits the spot. Stream it below:

The Boxer comes out on June 22nd on Glassnote Records.

[new] Sleigh Bells – Tell ‘Em

By Will, April 28th 2010 — with 1 comment

Sleigh Bells debut album Treats is coming out on May 11th, which isn’t that far away. I am pretty excited to hear it, and based on the massive amount of hype behind them, most of you guys are as well. For months we have only had their demo’s to keep us excited, but now we have a legit studio mp3 to obsess over until the record comes out.

The band is giving away “Tell ‘Em”, the opening jam of Treats for free on their website. The song features bomb-like effects over dirty guitar riffs that are bound to sound destructive when blasted from your speakers at the highest volume. The destructive nature of the song is contrasted by the lovely vocals of  Alexis Krauss. It is a perfect combo that knows how to work their magic on you. Having M.I.A. signing them to her record label certain allowed Sleigh Bells to have optimum studio use, which certainly payed off.

Can’t wait for the rest of Treats. I called them a band to watch, and if you have been watching, you are in for quite a ride.

[new] The Books – Beautiful People

By Will, April 27th 2010 — with 5 comments

This was a nice surprise to see at 5 p.m. The Books are back with a new song called “Beautiful People” and it is available for a free download thanks to Pitchfork. It will be included on their new album (their 4th) which is titled The Way Out. It is not your traditional pop song by any means. It starts with backwards vocals that ironically end up sounding like a  Sigur Ros song. “Beautiful People” then settles into an abiding groove that is equally as beautiful as it is unique. Even when the vocals straighten out, they are still able to remind me of Jónsi. Hey, that is not a bad thing by any means.

I have some background on The Books, but not enough. They are another one of those bands that I have been meaning to really dive into, but haven’t had the time or chance. I’m really feeling this song, so I think that it is time to begin!

Mysterious Arcade Fire Message

By Will, April 27th 2010 — with 4 comments

If you head to the Arcade Fire’s website you will be welcomed by a mysterious post. It says:

“This post is password protected. To view it please enter your password below:”

You then have the option to attempt to put in the “password”. To the left of this post it says “Protected: Test’. This is really mysterious and pretty open ended.

So, what do you think it is? Will you be greeted with the album title or track-listing if you crack the code? Or better yet, a mp3 of a brand new song? One can only dream…. Most likely it will provide us with more tour dates or something simpler. Either way, it is good news to me.

Let’s hope someone cracks this bad boy.

Update: The site is fixed, looks like it may have just been a glitch. Now it’s just tour dates.
