The Roots just recently announced that their new album How I Got Over, is dropping on June 22nd. The lead single from the album, Dear God 2.0, surfaced online Saturday night and it has exploded since then.

The Roots MC, Black Thought, raps over the background of “Dear God”, a song from Jim James and the rest of Monster of Folk. So The Roots take an indie rock song, re-work it, and rap over it. The result: A fantastic song that proves that The Roots are one of the best out there.

“Dear God 2.0” is a socially aware song that isn’t shy to talk about our problems. The use of Monster Of Folks “Dear God” is a fitting way to get their message through. I’m sold on this.
