[new] Arcade Fire – The Suburbs/Month Of May

By Will, May 26th 2010 — with 10 comments

Zane Lowe played both of those new Arcade Fire songs that the band has been hinting at for a little while now. As expected, someone got a radio rip, and the mp3s have leaked online.

Hear are my thoughts so far:

“The Suburbs” is a beautiful song that features a sunny melody. The band is in their top form. Win’s voice sounds great. That echoing guitar is breathtaking. Then we got “Month Of May”. It sounds like nothing that the band has done before. Certainly their heaviest sounding song to date. It’s almost like the band was living with Josh Homme and the rest of Queens Of The Stone Age for a few months and came out with “Month Of May”. It features distorted guitars/vocals from Win Butler.

The Suburbs sounds like the Arcade Fire of old, just more experienced and tight. Month Of May is Arcade Fire experimenting, and am digging it. I expect that some most people aren’t going to like it at first, but in time, they will grow to like it. Just watch.

Download Lazerproof For Free Now

By Will, May 26th 2010

A few days ago I mentioned that you would be able to download Lazerproof, a free mixtape from Major Lazer & La Roux. Well, the day is upon us. Go grab it for free right now from this website. Mad Decent’s site is down right now, probably because everyone loves free music, especially from artists like these.

Gotta go to work now, so I can’t listen yet. If you are going to listen to it, leave some comments for me letting me know how it is. That way I can see it when I get back.

DOOM and Madlib are back together as Madvillain, giving their single “Papermill” to Adult Swim’s Single Program. Each week they will post a new single. Last week they released a new song from Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Matt Sweeney. There are also some behind the scenes videos that you can watch there.

Head over to Adult Swim to grab the songs, or just grab “Papermill” below:

A radio rip of a new Mark Ronson song from his upcoming album Record Collection has surfaced via The Fader. Of course it came from a Radio 1 Zane Lowe show. The song is “Bang Bang Bang”, and it features Q-Tip and MNDR, otherwise known as Amanda Warner.

Mark Ronson has crafted a perfect landscape for Q-Tip & MNDR to dominate. MNDR sounds like a mixture of Santigold & M.I.A. This song is a ton of fun. Add another hot track to your ever growing summer playlist.

Mark Ronson’s Record Collection will be out later in 2010.

Just ran across this cool cover. It’s Kyp Malone (whose beard somehow grew even more) of TV On The Radio/Rain Machine, covering Talking Heads’ classic “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)”. Harsh Toke is the backing band that helps him out. Kyp acknowledges that this is many peoples favorite Talking Heads song. There is a reason for that. Find out why:

Here is a mp3 rip thanks to JP’s Blog:

The Tallest Man On Earth – Graceland (Paul Simon Cover)

By Will, May 26th 2010 — with 2 comments

Kristian Matsson, who you probably know as The Tallest Man On Earth is currently one of my favorite singer/songwriters. His music is bare bones folk rock, yet it’s powerful enough to give you goosebumps. This is even true when he covers classic Paul Simon’s songs like “Graceland”.

He strips the song to its purest form and the result is simply…stunning. It would be an understatement to call his voice powerful and moving. The Tallest Man On Earth really knows how to utilize those pipes that he was graced with.

This cover is one of the best that you will hear in general. It was included on his 7″ single release of “King Of Spain” as a b-side. Unfortunatly for us americans, it was sold during his recent Europle Tour only. Lame.

Anyway, grab it below:

Thanks to Music vs. Misery for posting this undeniable gem. Posted below is the artwork for the single:

Nomadic Creatour

By Will, May 26th 2010 — with 1 comment

So my friend Skylar is going across the country right now traveling as a part of the Nomadic Creatour. It is an incredible story where musicians and artists are travel across the country to raise awareness of the new generation of visual artists and musicians. These young independent artists created the Nomadic CreaTOUR in and around SUNY Purchase this year. It features the bands God Tiny & Cavepainter, and multiple artists such as my friend Skylar.

They are stopping in various town and cities across the USA and are going to document it all for a future documentary. Take a look at their travel route below:

Intense right? Well, the guys are currently in New Mexico doing their thing. I saw Skylar post that they are having fun, but could use donations to help them pay for gas expenses in order to keep the trip going. This is a really good cause and if you would like to help them out, you can donate right below:

This is a really brave and ambitious project, I can only imagine how much fun they are having out there. Best of luck to everyone on the tour. To keep up with them, visit their website.

Apparatjik

By Will, May 25th 2010 — with 1 comment

Apparatjik is a supergroup that consists of Guy Berryman from Coldplay, Jonas Bjerre of Mew, Magne Furuholmen from a-ha, and producer Martin Terefe. They formed in 2008 but surprisingly, I haven’t heard about the group until now. They are going to release their first album as a band on June 15th, titled We Are Here. Right now you can actually grab a free 3 song EP from them here.

Posted below is a stream of a song from We Are Here, called “Electric Eye”:

Their website is extremely odd and annoying. The song sounds like its from outer space. This definitely isn’t your normal supergroup. Even with that said, they sure know how to intrigue me…
