By Will, May 25th 2010 — with 7 comments

Major Lazer (Diplo + Switch) and UK duo La Roux have collaborated to bring you a free mixtape that will drop this Wednesday via Mad Decent. Major Lazer made the tape when they were in Jamaica. It features guest appearances from the likes of Drake, Gucci Mane, and Amanda Blank.

A free mixtape from these two acts? Sounds like a good deal to me. Take a peak at the tracklisting below:

Introducing: Woody Danger

By Will, May 24th 2010

I would like to take a moment to introduce you to a brand new band fresh out of Brooklyn called Woody Danger. They just gave me a taste of their first release, a song called “Young Love”. It’s an incredible wonder of song that is far from amateur. It features an enthralling guitar riff that perfectly coincides with electronic effects that fall somewhere between Dan Deacon and Animal Collective.

It isn’t a straightforward pop song, but its pretty clear that these guys know how to pen music that radiates fantastic pop sensabilites. This is one of the coolest things I have heard all year. This is only their first song too. It will be included on their debut album, The Serious Kids, which they say is coming out soon.

I have a good feeling about Woody Danger. We will be hearing a lot more about them soon.

Head over to their myspace, add them, bookmark them. Keep an eye out!

Photo Of The Strokes Back Together

By Will, May 24th 2010 — with 1 comment

Julian C just uploaded the photo that you see above to his twitter, getting fans of The Strokes way too excited for their own good. Nice to see them all together again. Lets hope it results in a killer 4th album.

I was just browsing through my inbox when I came across a mysterious remix of Duck Sauce’s (A-Trak & Armand Van Helden) “Barbera Streisand”. It was credited as the Baby Diego Edit From Scratch. No idea who you are buddy, so please let us know who you are if you see this.

I didn’t know about Duck Sauce until I saw this remix, so I’m really glad that it found me. I can’t find a regular studio version of “Barbera Streisand” right now, but I will keep you posted. For now, you can watch Duck Sauce play it live below:. Should help you get a better idea for what the regular version is all about. Something tells me this is going to be a must have party anthem for the rest of  2010:

By Will, May 24th 2010

NPR has an exclusive stream of Ratatat’s new album, LP4. It’s (obviously) the 4th album from the NYC based electronic rock duo coming out via XL Recordings on June 8th. It features some songs that were left over from the LP3 sessions, so chances are if you liked that, you will like this.

Check it out via NPR’s First Listen.

You can also grab, “Party With Children”, a song from the album that the label gave away for free:

William Fitzsimmons – So This is Goodbye (Pink Ganter Remix)

By Will, May 24th 2010 — with 1 comment

I’m not a huge remix guy, but if the right one comes around I am all ears. This is what happened when I recently discovered an excellent remix of William Fitzsimmons “So This Is Goodbye” by Pink Ganter. Discovered the remix thanks to Chris over at Dailybeatz.

Although I have seen the name of William Fitzsimmons floating around, this remix was my introduction to his music. The original version is lovely, but the remix highlights the songs melodramatic guitar riff, and wraps it around a distinct electronic feeling of yearning that drips from his voice. This remix will grab you and leave you wondering why you haven’t discovered William before.

The original “So This Is Goodbye” is off Derivatives, an album featuring re-mixes and reworking of songs from his debut album,
