LCD Soundsystem – Throw (iTunes Bonus Track)

By Will, May 20th 2010 — with 11 comments

For the iTunes release of LCD Soundsystem’s latest album, This Is Happening, LCD Soundsystem covered Paperclip People’s “Throw” as a itunes exclusive bonus track. Paperclip People is Carl Craig, a producer/dj who has a heavy hand in the Detroit underground techno/dance scene. The original version of “Throw” is pretty close to a perfect 15 minute long electronic jam.

James Murphy spices the song up with crunchy bass, shuffling drums, hypnotizing synth attacks, and plenty of blissful effects. When he finally speaks, lets just say he hits some of his highest notes to date. This is as worthy a cover as any. A must have for any fans of electronic/dance music. Give it a try:

When Chris Atto of Dailybeatz asked me to contribute a song for his summer mixtape project, it took me a while to decide what to pick. I wasn’t going to pick anything arctic monkeys, or anything that was too obvious a choice from me. So I dug deep and threw Galaxie 500′s “Strange” at him, and I am proud of that choice.

Chris creativily asked some of his favorite blogs, and even blogs that he just discovered, to throw songs at him that reminded him of summer. He then compiled all of the songs into a mixtape, and the result is pretty cool. Major props to Chris for getting it all together. It looks great.

So visit Dailybeatz right now, congratulate Chris on his one year anniversary, and download the mixtape.

Phoenix Play NPR Tiny Desk Concert

By Will, May 19th 2010 — with 1 comment

Phoenix stopped by the NPR offices to play for their Tiny Desk Series. The french kings played an intimate set that included Lisztomania, Armistice, 1901, and a cover of Air’s “Playground Love”. It was really cool to see the band in such a small setting. They seem like really genuine guys who love what they do.

Watch the performance right here.

Tokyo Police Club – Wait Up (Boots Of Danger) (Passion Pit Remix)

By Will, May 17th 2010 — with 4 comments

Sorry that I didn’t post at all today. I started my summer internship with the wonderful Beggars Group today, and didn’t have time to post at all. As of now, I will be interning with them Monday’s + Tuesday’s, so don’t expect much posting, if any at all. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m really honored to be interning there. Anyway, on to the posting:

I may have posted Tokyo Police Club’s “Wait Up (Boots Of Danger)” a little bit earlier then when I was supposed to, but now RCRDLBL has a higher quality mp3 available, along with a remix of of the song done by the indie wonder boys, Passion Pit.

[mp3] Radiant Dragon – Preseli

By Will, May 16th 2010

It’s Sunday, and you probably have work or school tomorrow and are dreading it. Here is some cool electronic music from a new artist named Radiant Dragon that you should try out. It’s mysterious and spacey, testing the limits of the mind.

Here is his own bio:

Radiant Dragon’s music takes you on a trip through fragments of Utopia. The songs journey through the electronic forests, abandoned cities, and buried dreams of the future. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany and lives in London.

“Preseli” will be the first single taken from his debut album, which is set to come out in October on Cloud Factory, his own record label.

Put on some headphones, close your eyes, and let the mind do the rest:

New Panda Bear Single: Tomboy

By Will, May 16th 2010

Amazon has “Tomboy”, a new Panda Bear single listed for release on July 13 via Animal Collective record label Paw Tracks. The listing says the following:

Paw Tracks is excited to present the first in a series of limited edition seven inch singles by Animal Collective’s Panda Bear. There will be several limited singles total (on different labels), and each one will bring us closer and closer to the much anticipated release of the Tomboy full length.

The 7″ single will come with a b-side called “Slow Motion”. Tomboy, also the title of Panda Bear’s next full length, is expected in stores this September. I’m really excited to see where Panda Bear goes with this solo album. July 13th is not too far away. Sweet deal Mr. Bear.

Weird Korea Presents: No Art / No Trade

By Will, May 16th 2010 — with 1 comment

My good pal Nic and the rest of his band Weird Korea have just released their first EP No Art / No Trade, and it is bloody fantastic. Epic jams, raw sounds, good times all around. Check out the excellent “Youth Cult” below, featuring more of the bands tight garage rock sound that you should get to know right now. With all the overhyped lo-fi garage rock out there today, it is nice to hear stuff that actually has me moving:

There is a link to download the entire EP on their myspace, so go there if you want to hear more.
