Deerhoof quietly updated their myspace blog recently with info regarding the status of their new album. Just six days ago John Dieterich posted the following on the blog:

We’ve started!  Finally!  It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve gotten together and begun recording material for the next Deerhoof album and, even though I’m exhausted and can’t think straight, I can tell we’re onto something special.  We’ve got a few more weeks to try and get at least the basic ideas outlined.  My small brain is threatening to lose grasp of what we’ve done so far, but we’ve got a lot more to do….  Can’t wait til we can share it.

Deep in Recordingland,
John

Even before that in May, Greg Saunier posted this message:

We just started recording a new album yesterday. As usual nothing is usual. The only thing we know how to do is not know what to do. Sometimes I think the only thing we are becoming experts at is being beginners.

Which can be kind of fun: if you always try to do something you don’t know how to do, then you can have beginner’s luck again and again.
Greg

So it looks as though things are started to get underway. This would be the band’s 11th album, the first since 2008’s wonderful Offend Maggie. The title of John’s post in Planet Earth World. Could that be a hint at the possible album title? You never know with Deerhoof I suppose. Can’t wait to see how Deerhoof enter the new decade. I bet they will find a new way to re-invent themselves.
