I got to the Creators Project at about 2:30ish and eagerly checked out how they transformed Milk Studios. It was filled to the brim with people, who were all anxious to check out the numerous amount of art and technology that the project had to display. The event had lots of cool things to check out, plus free drinks and food, which made the event a major from the win right away. I’m not really into art or anything but they had some pretty cool stuff there. I was really there to check out some music, which we all know is why I was really there.
While wandering around the place I met Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and spoke to him for a little. Got a photo with him too, which absolutely made my day. I saw a a bit of ASKA’s set, and the band seemed pretty talented. I moved on to find some free food, and they were serving mini burgers from Pop Burger, as well as hot dogs. Delicious & free, the best combo. It turned out the food stand was right near the big screen projecting the USA vs. Ghana game. I decided to watch that for a bit, and it was a lot of fun seeing the pride and energy of the crowd. Too bad we lost, but the team had a damn good run. Proud of them.
I stayed at that stage for a little longer and ended up getting a front row view of The Rapture’s set. I have been meaning to see The Rapture for many years, but they haven’t toured in ages. Well I finally got my set, and what a set it was. The band literally played all of their best songs, giving us fiery performances of “House Of Jelous Lovers”, “Whoo! Alright – Yeah… Uh Huh”, amongst others. The band really brings their A game live, showing why they are a staple of NYC dance rock. The Rapture were pretty much amazing live, and I have got to go see them again when they go on tour again. I ran into Luke Jenner, the bands singer/guitarist, and got a photo with him. He was a really friendly fella.
Unfortunately I had to leave the event at 7pm missing a lot of acts I would have loved to see. I had made a commitment to see Voxtrot’s last show ever with a friend, and it was hard for me to miss the band’s last show. Where as I will probably have more opportunities to see the other bands perform. Plus I got to see The Rapture play for free. Cool deal if you ask me.
The Creators Project was a tremendous success by all accounts. Anyone who tells you that they didn’t enjoy themselves had to be lying. They had free food/beverages, free performances from some of the best modern artists, and cool art. It was a great time, and I hope they have it again next year. I’ll be first in line.
