Teleskop

By Will, July 31st 2010 — with 1 comment

Just received an e-mail from a delightful new group from Sweden called Teleskop. They have shared two songs with me, both of which I am really enjoying.

“Anything Can Happen” is a hopeful track filled with sunny electronics and dream vocals. Sounds like a Swedish heaven. The second is “The Horrible” which is the opposite of it’s title. It’s a poppy little number with deep bass that craves to be blasted. These are very delightful songs that you can grab for free below:

Keep an eye on their myspace for more future sounds.

(500) Days Of Weezy (Lil Wayne vs. (500) Days Of Summer Soundtrack

By Will, July 31st 2010 — with 1 comment

Mashing up rappers over indie music is becoming the new thing to do. So why not throw Weezy together over the (500) Days Of Summer sountrack. Weezy + The Smiths? Check. Weezy + Simon & Garfunkel? Check. The man responsible for the project is named My Sick Uncle, who has this to say about his project:

“This is not a mashup album, this is an album about Wayne.”

You can download the whole album for free over here. Even if your not a fan of Lil Wayne, you may actually enjoy this. Some songs work better than others, but there are some really cool things going on.

Here is one cut that I am really loving. It’s a mix of Doves “There Goes The Fear” and Lil Wayne/Eminem’s verse from Drakes “Forever”. It works way too well:

Hat tip to Pretty Much Amazing for this find.

Rediscovering my love for Apartment

By Will, July 31st 2010

I just rediscovered Apartment’s 2007 debut album The Dreamer Evasive. I don’t know how these guys didn’t blow up more, but I remember instantly falling in love with them the instant I heard the triumphant “10000 Times” & the powerful “Beyond My Control”. These songs got better with age. They sound even better than I remembered them.

I just went to the band’s myspace and just found out from the band’s frontman David Caggiari via a blog post that the band is now defunct. This is pretty damn depressing considering the same day that I re-discover my love for the band, I find out they broke up last month. That’s the world we live in, isn’t it? Dave is in a new band called Age Of Giants.

So yeah Apartment is no more but here’s to hoping that one of you discover them for the first time and enjoy their music.

Relive their glory below:

Best Coast – Boyfriend (Ghostwaves Edit)

By Will, July 31st 2010 — with 1 comment

A fella named Ghostwaves just sent over his dance inspired edit of Best Coast’s “Boyfriend”, and it’s kind of amazing. He finds a way to make Best Coast’s lo-fi summer rock work as a dance song, even throwing in his own part craving to be Bethany’s boyfriend. Super awesome.

Ghostwaves the moniker of Tom Weir, who is from Connecticut. If you check out his myspace, you can hear some more remixes that he has done for the likes of Body Language, White Hinterland, Memoryhouse, & Sleigh Bells. There is also an original song called “Come Around” that will be on his first EP.

Introducing: Dabbles In Bloom

By Will, July 31st 2010 — with 5 comments

Just discovered a delightful young band called Dabbles In Bloom that is filled with 4 young musicians from Whitman College which is located in Walla Walla, Washington.

They just released their debut album Found It, and there are some really nice songs featured on it. With a light rock based sound, there is plenty of beauty to take away from their songs. The main focus is on quality song writing and music that is based upon human feelings.

You wouldn’t know that these were college kids from listening to their songs, they sound far from amateur. I’m really impressed. Hey Whitman College, you should be proud of Dabbles In Bloom, you have a real quality band at your hands.

Check out some of my favorite songs from their album (which you can stream at soundcloud)

Apache Beat – Another Day

By Will, July 31st 2010 — with 1 comment

I missed Brooklyn natives Apache Beat‘s set at Siren, but I heard pretty positive things about it. I just ran across this really groovy song “Another Day” that is going to be on their debut LP, Last Chants. “Another Day” is a sunny song that is tropical yet garage. It hints at The Talking Heads but in a more new-wave, post-punk fashion. They truly do have a sound that is unlike any band out there.

Shit, this song is good.

Last Chants is supposed to come out in October. If you haven’t heard the band’s song “Tropics”, you’re missing out. Think of it’s status as their “House Of Jealous Lovers”.

Yeasayer – O.N.E. (Teen Daze Remix)

By Will, July 31st 2010

Yeasayer’s “O.N.E.” is one of my favorite songs of 2010. Teen Daze is an act that I expect great things for in the future. He already impressed me with his remix of Local Natives. So when I saw that he remixed Yeasayer’s “O.N.E”, you can imagine my excitement. The re-visioned version of O.N.E. is a dreamy wonder that sounds futuristic and reflective. Teen Daze is onto something special.

Pitchfork has posted that Dave Portner a.k.a. Avery Tare from Animal Collective has announced his debut solo album. The album is titled Down There and will be released on October 26th via Animal Collective’s own label, Paw Tracks. It will consist of 9 songs, that were all produced by Animal Collectives’ Deakin.

Down There was recorded this past June at the Good House, an old church in upstate New York. According to the Paw Tracks press release, Avey’s favorite animals are the otter and crocodile, and the latter has played a big role in his newest record.

So we got Panda Bear’s new solo album coming out this September, and now Avery Tare’s debut a month later. I am excited for new Panda Bear, but I am more interested to see what kind of solo work Avery Tare churns out. Should be a good fall.

Check out the album art & tracklisting below:

01 Laughing Hieroglyphic
02 3 Umbrellas
03 Oliver Twist
04 Glass Bottom Boat
05 Ghost of Books
06 Cemeteries
07 Heads Hammock
08 Heather in the Hospital

We All Want Someone To Shout For Is Two Years Old!

By Will, July 30th 2010 — with 15 comments

I was going through my blog archives the other day and wanted to see the official date that I started my blog. Sure enough it was July 30th, 2008, which means we are now officially 2 years young. Woah, where the hell did the last two years go?

It seems like it was only yesterday that I got the sudden urge to really start my own blog after some outside motivation from various people. It was partly a way for me to put all of my musical obsessions out there for my friends to see, but deep down I wanted to see if I could take this blog to bigger things. I remember seeing the rise of blogs like GorillavsBear, and was always amazed at how well blogs had done. Realistically, I never thought anyone would read this thing aside from some friends and family.

But here we are, two years later, and there are plenty of you. You subscribe to my RSS Feed, leave comments, e-mail me, write in my shoutbox, follow me on twitter. It’s all mind blowing. Two years ago I was just a kid who listened to way too much new music and probably annoyed the people around him with the new music he was listening to. Now I get to bother you guys, and you actually appreciate it. It’s pretty wonderful.

A lot has changed in my life in two years. Two years ago I was just about to enter college. I was only 17 years old. Now I am about to enter my junior year of college, and only have a few more months of being a teenager. I am somewhat of a different person inside, but in the core I guess I’m really the same. No matter what happens to me, this blog will always be a part of me.

I have all of you to thank for this. Without you, this blog wouldn’t be here. You guys push me to write multiple times every day to share my musical obsessions with. I hope that you enjoy this blog and that you continue to come back. I started We All Want Someone To Shout For partly for myself in 2008, but now I write it for all of you.

It’s been a great ride, but get ready for bigger and better things in the upcoming two years.

-Will

I figured I would share some songs with you that partly inspired this blog. These were some of my favorite songs that I formed emotional connections with that partly got me so invested with new music. Listen to the first song. It’s lyrics may ring a bell.
