Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner Scoring Film

By Will Oliver, July 12th 2010 — with 2 comments News

Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys (you may have heard of them around here once or twice) is scoring a movie soundtrack. He has written songs for a movie called Submarine, which will be directed by Richard Ayoade. Submarine is based on a novel written by Welsh writer Joe Dunthorne. You can buy it here. The movie is set for a 2011 release.

Ayoade is no stranger to The Monkeys, as he was the one who directed the music videos for “Fluorescent Adolescent”, “Crying Lightning” and “Cornerstone”. He also worked with them on their live dvd: At The Apollo.

New Arctic Monkeys music is on the way sometime soon, but that is never enough for Turner who is arguably one of the busiest men in the music business.

This will technically be Turner’s first solo project, and I’m excited to see the result. James Ford (of Simian Mobile Disco) will mix the songs for Turner.
