So the girl who is on the Contra album cover is sueing Vampire Weekend. This news is a few days old, but I am still in shock and figured it was time for me to comment on it. The girl who is on the photograph is named Kirsten Kennis. She claims that no one asked her for permission to use her photograph, and that the signature on the photo release form is a forgery. She is sueing the band, XL Recordings, and Tod Brody, the photographer for $2 million.
It’s pretty amazing that she decides to come out now, months since the release of the album. It just so happens that Vampire Weekend have gotten more and more popular with each passing day, and obviously that means more $$ for her….
This whole thing stinks for everyone involved. Hopefully it all gets sorted out.
