[mp3] Soars – Throw Yourself Apart

By Will, July 26th 2010

Soars are a band from Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania who are putting out their self titled debut album on October 5th via La Société Expéditionnaire. The band consists of various members of local independent bands within the Lehigh Valley independent music scene.

You can download “Throw Yourself Apart”, a song from the debut LP. It’s a dark song that sounds like it came from a haunted 80′s band that has a lot to get off their chest. There are plenty of layers to peel off to get to the songs juicy center. Lovely stuff from this bright young band.

Soars will be playing @ Glasslands on 8/13 along with How To Dress Well & The Golden Filter.

Below is the trailer for the live broadcast:

[mp3]: Pezzettino – Replay

By Will, July 26th 2010

Pezzettino is Margaret Stutt, an accordionist, singer-songwriter who currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. She is about to release a collaborative album with hip hop producer LMNtlyst called LubDub.

Below you can download “Replay”, the first single from LubDub. It’s a memorable song that takes from every genre. Margaret’s vocals sound somewhat like Regina Spektor. With some incredible beats and production from LMNtlyst, “Replay” is a song that you will want to indeed, replay. The 60′s summer influenced guitars at the end of the song sound like the best part of a She & Him song that never happened.

LubDub will be released as a digital download on September 7. It will be released on 12″ vinyl later this fall. For more on her, visit her myspace.

[new] Grinderman – Heathen Child

By Will, July 26th 2010

You can stream ‘Heathen Child”, the new single from Grinderman‘s upcoming 2nd album Grinderman 2 below thanks to Grindermansite’s Twitter. This song is the latest fuzzed out blues guitar attack from Nick Cave’s wonderful project. After hearing “Heathen Child”, I am just waiting for some Grinderman tour dates with The Dead Weather.

This song is dirty garage rock with a hint of the blues. These guitars are slaying my mind right now:

Mute will release “Heathen Child” as a limited edition 12″ colored vinyl single on September 6th . Not only will it have another version of the song with a guitar solo from Robert Fripp, but it will also be accompanied by the b-side, “Star Charmer”.

A new song from the Scottish lads The Twilight Sad called “The Wrong Car” is now streaming at their myspace. It will be on the forthcoming 12″ that will be on FatCat Records. It’s 7 minutes long, but you won’t need to bother to check the clock. This sad epic will keep your emotions plenty occupied.

This is actually the first time I’ve heard anything from The Twilight Sad. I saw both Pitchfork & Stereogum post it, and I loved it after checking it out. There is never enough new music out there, is there? I’m certainly their newest fan. These guys have an incredible sound.

Les Savy Fav’s new album Root For Ruin doesn’t officially drop until September 14th (via Frenchkiss), but the album already leaked this past weekend. The band’s always been known for their good sense of humor, so I thought it was hilarious when I saw the I “Stole” Root For Ruin page. It’s a page that the band set up for possible donations of guilt from people who downloaded the leak.

With this news, the band is also giving away “Let’s Get Out Of Here”, a song from Root For Ruin. They are asking for an e-mail address, but you can just grab it further on below. In typical Les Savy Fav fashion, the song rocks. Crunch guitar riffs and one of the bands more straight up catchy choruses to date.

Lovers and Poets – Life Is Strange

By Will, July 26th 2010

Lovers and Poets are Shannon Hurley & Ben Eisen, a husband and wife electronic duo from Los Angeles. They are releasing their debut s/t album later this month, and have shared a song called “Life Is Strange” from the album. Its a light airy song that has a cool lounge atmosphere that reminded me of acts like Zero 7. Shannon has a lovely voice that is a treat for the ears.

This is a good song to play early in the morning, to help set your day right with some happy tunes. Life sure is strange but it’s easier with good music like this.

DZ – Gebbie Street

By Will, July 26th 2010 — with 1 comment

Woah, DZ’s “Gebbie Street” sound like a mix of Death From Above 1979 & Sleigh Bells. Basically it’s balls of the wall rock and roll that is meant to be played loud with spilled beers on the floor and loads of sweaty people going apeshit in a packed garage.

DZ hail all the way from down under in Australia. “Gebbie Street” is their new single. This is their follow up to their debut EP, Ruined My Life. These guys have an exciting sound that is sure to bring on plenty of followers. The band will be playing in NYC this October. I’ll have more on these guys later on.

Tim Gunter is a producer from Raleigh, NC who spent his past few months at North Carolina State University prepping his mixtape “Dance To This”. Tim took a mix of different songs and mashed them up and remixed them with one intention in mind: making songs that people can dance to.

The mixtape is perfect for your next party, and you can stream/download the entire thing right here.

Here is one of the songs that I can’t quite get enough of. It combines Lil Waynes “Fireman” and Passion Pit’s “Little Secret”. The result is pure magic.
