Sharon Van Etten was kind enough to share with me her lovely contribution to the film, The Builder. It’s a song called “I Couldn’t Save You”, and damn its sad. It’s a beautiful, damn haunting performance from Sharon who lays it all on the line.

The fact that Sharon hasn’t blown up by now is a shame. After listening to “I Couldn’t Save You” there is no denying her talent. Sharon may not have been able to save this person, but she can certainly save music:

Grandpa Al

By Will, July 22nd 2010

My buddy Ian has just launched his new photo blog, and I highly recommend that you take some time to check it out and add it to your bookmarks. He’s even more dedicated to photographing nyc shows, so it’s definitely worth your time.

The blog is somewhat of a dedication to his late grandfather, which is amazing.

Check out his blog below:

He is also a fantastic director. Check out some of his stuff here or here.

Hear 30 Second Previews Of The Suburbs

By Will, July 22nd 2010

Forgot to post this earlier. Earlier today Amazon put up 30 second previews of every song on Arcade Fire’s upcoming new album The Suburbs. They got taken down but Music, Birds and Cereal saved the day and has all the clips on a soundcloud embed.

Head over there to stream previews of all of the songs. It’s sounding goooooooood.

If you aren’t familiar with the amazing Daytrotter, it’s about time to get acquainted with the fantastic site. Their sessions are second to none, and they’ve done so much good for new artists.

Their success hasn’t been ignored. A documentary is being made about the blog/studio. It’s appropriately called Welcome to Daytrotter. It looks really amazing. Should be interesting to see.

[new] Arab Strap – Daughters of Darkness

By Will, July 21st 2010 — with 2 comments

Check out a previously unreleased song from Arab Strap called “Daughters of Darkness”. The song wasn’t on any Arab Strap album or re-issue, although it was on Scenes of a Sexual Nature.

Is it a crime to admit I haven’t gotten around to checking out Arab Strap until this? Yeah, I’m totally ashamed. However I am very much impressed after hearing “Daughters of Darkness”, which is an unreleased song. I can only imagine what their official releases sound like. I’m gonna go do my homework on them asap. Their style is very unique and appealing to me.

Download the song, below:

[mp3] Adam Haworth Stephens – The Cities That You’ve Burned

By Will, July 21st 2010 — with 2 comments

Adam Haworth Stephens is a singer-songwriter from San Francisco who is gearing up to release his debut album, We Live On Cliffs, set for release on September 28th via Saddle Creek. You can hear a new song from the album called “The Cities That You’ve Burner” on his website, or download it at the end of this post. He is also a member of the band Two Gallants.

He sounds a little bit like Bright Eyes, just with a little more fire. I’m loving the american/country influence in his music. It’s a perfect match for his emotional voice. I just discovered Adam, but I am already a fan.

By Will, July 21st 2010

Deerhunter’s
new single “Revival” is now available to listen. To obtain it you just gotta go to this site and type in the password “tapereel”. Then if you click the tapereel that is in the photo of the band, you can obtain “Revival”, the new single from the bands new album, Halcyon Digest. It also comes with the single’s b-side, “Primitive 3D and the album art. “Revival” is pretty sweet.
