Total Slacker opened up the show with an alright set that picked up some steam later on once their guitarist fixed the sound problems they were having. The guitarist certainly has some talent playing a pretty great guitar solo even if it was dragged out for almost 5-10 minutes. I was entertained watching him go though.

Smith Westerns are a band that has been receiving a lot of praise after their 2009 self titled album. I personally only had one song of theirs, “Be My Girl”, which I thought was fantastic. But holy shit, these guys absolutely rocked it last night at Bowery Ballroom. They played a set that was simply rock and roll. The crowd was with me on this one, as they were begging the boys to play one more after they ended things with a near perfect performance of “Be My Girl”. I think they actually stole the show.

Wavves came on and were just as I expected. Loud and crazy. The crowd was full of mostly young adults ready to mosh and cause havoc on the floor. Nathan Williams and his backing band loved that the Bowery Ballroom smelt of weed and pretty much welcomed total crowd interaction. They poured Makers Mark into some guys mouth, and allowed the crowd surfers to go on stage, jump around, and jump right back into the madness. Nathan joked about getting sued by Disney saying that Mickey Mouse will be replaced by a b-side that he then played.

All in all, I had a lot of fun watching Wavves. The show had a lot of energy, and from what I heard, the band sounded great. It ended with Nathan playing guitar while crowd surfing. Total rock and roll dude.
