The good people over at Voucher Codes wanted my opinion on the importance of owning quality speakers when listening to music. If you’re a friend of mine then you know that I am always blasting my music, and quite loudly too. I don’t know where I would be without my speakers.
Like many of us these days, I am on a limited budget. But if you try hard enough it’s easy to find a good pair of speakers that will fit your budget.
This summer I upgraded my speakers to the beautiful Logitech Z-5500’s. They’re not cheap, but they were well worth the $300.00 I dropped. I don’t think that my music has even sounded so vibrant and clear.
Good speakers not only make your music sound better, but they make you feel better about music again. It’s almost like listening to each song for the first time. There is nothing like the feeling of discovering a great song. Well with high quality speakers, you practically re-experience this with every listen.
With music so readily available through the internet, many people have become worried about bit rates and the type of rip that music is in. What does all this matter if your listening to it through your macbook’s speakers? Owning a good pair of speakers will make sure that you stick to high quality versions of songs, ultimately doing yourself a favor.
I now look forward to playing my entire library just to see how different it all sounds. There truky is a difference. You hear new bits and pieces of songs that you thought you had down to pact. They sound richer, fuller, and colorful. Your music comes to life.
There’s nothing quite like coming home after a long day and immersing your room with your favorite music at ridiculous volumes. It’s really the only way I can imagine listening to my music. If you have some money to spare, I highly recommend investing your hard earned money towards a quality set of speakers. It’s worth every penny!

Interesting post; I didn’t know Logitech made speakers of that high quality and price range…out of curiosity, what kind of headphones do you use?

I don’t even bother with speakers anymore–too pricey for good high-quality drivers. Also, I’m not really able to blast music (due to roommates and neighbors).
I tend to spend my money on good headphones and in-ear monitors.
For the go: The etymotic ER-4S are possibly the best IEMs I’ve heard. While expensive (180$), they are well worth the money.
For home listening, I put on my Beyerdynamic 770s. I recently had to purchase new headphones, and the Beyers were a good change of pace from my sennheisers. The Beyers are a bass-heavy headphone, and completely altered my listening of Rap/Electronic. Beats are much more energetic than with the Sennheisers and Etymotics.

Damn, I’ve used that exact same set for 2 years and it’s currently sitting idle in a box back in France, while I’m listening to crappy 2.1 speakers here.
Not exactly faithful or music oriented but really good bang for the buck.

Trying not to be a hardware snob, but since when is $300 “not cheap” for speakers? I can’t imagine only spending $300 for speakers.

Here here! Been trying to explain this to my girlfriend for months. Good speakers are everything. I have a pair of Denon monitors, cost £700 seven years ago, and they still sound as good as ever. If my house set on fire, I would dive to save them first.

Break the bank and invest in proper speakers at like $1500 + for the pair. Get a good stereo amp, some good cables and a proper cd player! Those 5.1 small ones just don’t cut it!

It is amazing how much the technology you use to listen to music can make a difference in the music you’re listening to. A pair of ipod earphones or $5 radioshack speakers just don’t cut it, the money you put into a good pair of headphones or speakers will almost always give you a more immersive music experience. I have the Z-2300 THX 2.1 sound system (aka the downgraded version of Will’s) and they have been working fine for around two years. Logitech’s speaker’s have always been good, maybe not for the audiophile or those who have the money to get an amazing set of speakers, but they get the job done (at least the one’s with good amperage anyway).
