Check out a new song from S.Carey called “In The Stream”. If you need your memory refreshed, S.Carey is Bon Iver’s drummer. He is releasing his debut solo album All We Grow on August 24th, and has given the lovely “In The Stream” away for free. It’s a beautiful description of an endless journey down stream.

Your gonna want to grab this one:

Durojaiye Versatile – Stay And Enjoy Life

By Will, August 12th 2010 — with 1 comment

Slow down, pour yourself a glass of some fine wine, and turn on “Stay And Enjoy Life” by Durojaiye Versatile. It will make you appreciate where you are right now, so that you can enjoy the smaller things in life. It’s a minimalistic instrumental that is absolutely stunning. It’s production is top of the line. Although there are no words, the song spoke a great deal to me.

If your having a band day, this song will cheer you up. I promise. When have I ever let you down? (If I have, let me know! I’m sorry!!)

“Stay And Enjoy Life” comes from his 2009 album The Fermented Sessions. Check out Durojaiye’s blog, and go buy The Fermented Sessions here.

Vampire Weekend – White Sky (Cecile Remix)

By Will, August 12th 2010 — with 2 comments

Damn check out this really sweet remix that Cecile did for Vampire Weekends “White Sky”. It transforms the song into a 7 minute epic that weaves in and out of different sounds. One second it’s dark and mysterious, the next it’s tropical. It’s quite a listen.

The song was given away for free via the bands twitter. It was their first tweet ever. Go follow them.

As a bonus for your loyal readers, here is a high quality tagless (more importantly!) copy of the White Sky (Basement Jaxx Remix) that I posted not too long ago. Big thanks to Andy Kennedy for the tip.

Free Energy have wowed me live 3 times this year. They put on a fun show and you better catch them soon. If you haven’t seen them yet that’s ok. They are playing on the roof of Spin’s headquarters tonight at 7:45pm (Eastern Time), and the whole thing is being live streamed here.

Free Energy always bring it, don’t miss out!

The band was included in a new Target commercial w/ Shaun White. I’m really happy for them, it’s well deserved. Check it out below:

[Listen] The Walkmen Live @ WNYC

By Will, August 12th 2010 — with 1 comment

The Walkmen stopped by WNYC ‘s Soundcheck Studios on Tuesday to play a few new songs off of Lisbon. They played “Angela Surf City”, “Juveniles” & “Woe Is Me” live. Check it out below:

There are also some quick interview sessions that are worth a listen. Good stuff. Lisbon is a fantastic album. I’m still digging in deep to Lisbon, but from my first few listens, I’m loving it.

[new] Kanye West – See Me Now (Feat. Beyoncé & Charlie Wilson)

By Will, August 11th 2010 — with 1 comment

Today Kanye dropped a new song called “See Me Now” on NYC’s Hot 97 that features Beyoncé & Charlie Wilson. You may recognize some of his verses from his visit to facebook. Loving the production on it. Not sure if it will be on his new album thats supposed to drop in November, but I hope so. As Confusion rightly points out, this sounds like College Droupout Kanye. In other words, its got it going on.

Band To Watch: Dominant Legs

By Will, August 11th 2010

Thanks to my buddy Ethan from Indian Rebound for recommending Dominant Legs to me. Ethan’s a huge fan of Girls and was well aware of the fact that Girls guitarist Ryan Lynch had started Dominant Legs with Hannah Hunt and was onto something great. The San Francisco duo have a great vintage 60s pop sound that is vibrant and exciting as they come. These songs will make you want to go outside and explore, breaking out in dance on the way. Feel good tunes are what Dominant Legs do. I’m feeling damn good.

They will release their debut EP Young At Love And Life next week (August 17th) on Lefse Records. I posted two of the most excellent cuts from the EP below. I believe these are the demo versions so I can only imagine how great they will sound more polished. I posted the title track along with “Clawing Out At The Walls”. They go together really well. Enjoy:

Dominant Legs are certainly a band to watch. Keep an eye out!

Belle and Sebastian Write About Love

By Will, August 11th 2010 — with 4 comments

Belle and Sebastian Write About Love is the name of the new album from Belle and Sebastian, everyone’s favorite indie darlings. Stuart Murdoch made the announcement via a message on the band’s site. There is no release date yet, but we can hope that it isn’t too far off. This is the first B&S album since The Life Pursuit back in 2006.

Stuart has asked fans to write the album title in chalk or in non permanent ways in public/secret spots in your town, and photograph themselves doing so. You can then upload them to their flickr group. If yours is the best, you may get a prize from the band themselves!

I gotta think of something cool for this.
