Archive for August, 2010

Loving the dreamy atmosphere of Blackbird Blackbird’s “Crumble Before Your Eyes”. Mikey sent me the song at 1 am with the following message:

This is Mikey from Blackbird Blackbird, thought I’d send over this new track I finished about 30 minutes ago, just had to share it!

It’s a fresh song right out of the over and it can be yours simply by right clicking and hitting save as. You won’t regret it.

Blackbird Blackbird has a new EP out called Rarities that you can nab for no charge, right here. His debut album Summer Heart LP is available to stream & purchase here. It will be released physically on September 28th via the wonderful Arcade Sound Ltd.

As a bonus here are two remixes that he did for Local Natives’ “Camera Talk” & Twin Sister’s “Lady Daydream”:

[music video] Antony and the Johnsons – Thank You for Your Love

By Will, August 23rd 2010 — with 2 comments

Antony and the Johnsons has shared the music video for his song “Thank You For Your Love” which will be on his new album, Swanlights (October 11th via Rough Trade), as well as the title of the Thank You For Your Love EP that will precede the album on August 24th (via Secretly Canadian).

The video is comprised of Super 8 footage Antony shot upon his arrival in New York City as a teenager in the early 1990′s. The song itself is one of the more upbeat songs that I’ve heard from Antony. Not bad.

This somewhat obscure song “Vilse” by Swedish band Symfoniorkestern came my way, and I am really enjoying it. It’s apparently a remake/cover of a version originally made by fellow Swedes, Slutet. It starts off like a Beirut song, but then transforms into a dreamy lush wonder that sounds like a light soundtrack to one’s journey to heaven. Seems to me like we may potentially have a Swedish Sigur Ros on our hands.

Beautiful.

[mp3] Frankie Rose and The Outs – Little Brown Haired Girls

By Will, August 21st 2010 — with 1 comment

Are you in the mood for some blissful dream pop with lovely female vocals. Then look no further, Franke Rose and The Outs got you covered. “Little Brown Haired Girls” is a perfect piece of indie pop. With shoegaze inspired guitars that certainly don’t shy from reverb and hazy vocals, they create a glossy sound that I really adore.

She has drummed for the likes of Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts, and Dum Dum Girls. Now she fronts her own band. Their self titled debut album will drop on September 21st via Slumberland Records.

[new] Lupe Fiasco – Go To Sleep

By Will, August 21st 2010 — with 1 comment

Lupe himself leaked a new song called “Go To Sleep” off of his new album Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album. It’s good to have Lupe back because the world can always use some good hip-hop. Lupe sounds as strong as ever. Loving the production on this album.

This song made my weekend that much better. Hopefully Lupe’s label will get off his ass and let him release what he wants to. Ever hear of artistic freedom?
