I’m digging into Ways Of Escape, the new album from Great Lakes, and so far, so good. I’m totally digging the alt-country music coming from Ben Crum. This is the first release that is primarily from Ben’s mind, as his songwriting partner Dan Donahue split midway through the making of the album.

“Rev War” & “Ghost Brother” are the first two tracks from Ways Of Escape, and they immediately left me impressed. There is warm storytelling attached to the telling instrumentals that take you on a journey through Americas wilderness, leaving you breathless.

Don’t know why these songs aren’t getting more praise, because quite frankly, they’re incredibly great. Am I the only one who hears a little bit of Nick Cave in “Ghost Brother”?
