As you may remember, Alex Turner wrote some new songs that would be featured on the soundtrack for an upcoming film titled Submarine. It’s based on a book written by Joe Dunthorne.
I just ran across an interview with director Richard Ayoade (director of many of the bands music videos) and he gives us some concrete details on what Alex contributed towards the film. He says Alex wrote 5 new songs for the film. That’s five brand new songs from Mr. Turner, and that makes me quite excited. Check out the interview here. Found it via ArcticMonkeysUS.
Some reviews have been pouring in at the films debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it’s causing quite a stir. Most of the reviews have taken noticed of Alex’s songs and everyone seems to have enjoyed them a great deal. They were described as “sweet & folky” in this review.
Ben Stiller is a producer of the film, and it looks like The Weinstein Company has acquired it’s North American rights. Hopefully we get a release here soon. I’d surely attend it’s NYC premiere if I got the chance.
Here are three clips of the film, which made me quite excited to see it. Found them via HitFlix:
Now you have two reasons to get very excited about this film. It looks great, and it features new songs from Mr. Turner. It will be the first time that we hear his solo work, so it’s pretty damn excited. Stay tuned for more on this.

I read this book after hearing Alex was doing the movie soundtrack. I’m not usually a fan of teen angst novels, but this one was smart and pretty damn funny, and a perfect story for a movie.
