Kordan – Mirror

By Will, September 24th 2010 — with 1 comment

If your in the mood for moody shoegaze pop, Brooklyn natives Kordan have got you covered. The guys of Kordan met in Puerto Rico, and formed once they were all together in Brooklyn. They are about to release their debut LP The Longing on 10/12 via Last Bummer.

“Mirror” is the dreamy first single from the record, and I’m immersed in it’s glory. It takes you far away from all of your troubles, and puts you in a better place through its melancholy.

Stereogum just premiered it’s music video. Watch that below:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have recorded a pretty stunning cover of the classic Beach Boys gem, “God Only Knows”. It takes a lot to cover one of pop’s finest moments. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. were up to the task, and delivered a beautiful cover that stands up on it’s own. Brian should be proud of this one.

Yeah Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is quite a ridiculous name, but whatever. It’s the music that counts.

Andrew Bird :: Useless Creatures

By Will, September 24th 2010

When Andrew Bird released his 2009 album Noble Beast, he added a bonus disc of instrumental music that he titled Useless Creatures. Well no new album is on the way from the crafty Mr. Bird this year, but he is going to give Useless Creatures an official release. It will be released on October 25th via Fat Possum.

Bird said it was his “ambient experimental record”. You can get a taste of what exactly he means by checking out album track “Hot Math”. Check out a mp3 of the almost asian influenced song below via One Thirty BPM.

You can also watch a unofficial video of “Don’t Be Scared” that’s Bird approved. Watch after the jump:

[new] British Sea Power – Zeus

By Will, September 24th 2010

I am a happy boy today. Do you want to know why? There is a new song available to listen to from British Sea Power. With it comes the announcement of a new 7 song EP with the same name. It will be released digitally on October 5th, with a physical 12″ release on October 12th, all via Rough Trade.

“Zeus” is both the name of their new song & EP. It starts with a throbbing rhythm section that builds and builds until all tension is relieved with heaven bound guitars. It’s a typical British Sea Power encouraging rocker where the sky’s the limit. When everything comes together, you’re in a far better place than when you once started.

It’s good to have you back BSP.

The band accompanied the song with this blog entry:

Technically, you could argue this is a mini album, but we like to think of it as a MAXI EP.
After being away for a while, and with the album release date going back to January, we thought we’d be generous.

So there is a new full length on the way soon, early next year. Great, great, news!

Here’s the EP’s artwork:

I got quite a talent to share with you guys. Meet Donovan Woods. Get ready to be moved to your emotional core.

Donovan Woods is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Sarnia, Ontario. He sings tender folk songs that are hauntingly beautiful, brought together by the purest human emotions. One listen to “Lawren Harris” is all it takes. It’s already too late, you’re now his newest fan. It’s just honest and endearing in every way. We really do need more music like this.

Donovan Woods may just be the sleeper artist of 2010. He’s about to stand shoulder to shoulder with Bon Iver.

Download “Lawren Harris” below:

“Lawren Harris” is off his soon to be released new album The Widowmaker. Can’t wait to play the full album tonight.

[video] Joseph Gordon-Levitt Covers Lady GaGa

By Will, September 23rd 2010

I absolutely loved 500 Days Of Summer. One of my favorites scenes is in the bar when Joseph Gordon-Levitt is singing The Pixies. I was surprised with how well he sung.

Manny M. left a comment on the post I did today of Klaxons covering Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance”. In it he shared a cover that Joseph did at hitRECord’s show. I’m not surprised to say that it’s a great cover. He made it very entertaining to watch, and he can actually play guitar and sing well.

JGL has it all. All men are gonna be extremely jealous of this video. I am.

[music video] El Guincho – Bombay (NSFW!!)

By Will, September 23rd 2010

Wow El Guincho’s “Bombay” music video is absolutely nuts. There is so much random, crazy stuff going on at once. I’m still in shock/awe. There are also plenty of boobs. So yeah, please don’t watch this shit show at work anytime soon.

Not going to lie though, this video just made me love El Guincho that much more.

Klaxons, how I adore you. They dropped by Australian radio program Like a Version and drop a light cover of the GaGa smash. Their version is actually really stripped down and pretty. It’s a different side of Klaxons, and it sounds great.

While we’re at it, here’s their cover of Justin Timberlake’s “My Love” that they did back in the day:

Jukebox The Ghost – Schizophrenia

By Will, September 23rd 2010 — with 2 comments

After one listen of Jukebox The Ghost’s “Hold It In” back in ’08, I was hooked. They have such a positive, poppy sound, it’s simply impossible to dislike these guys. They have recently showed off their new single “Schizophrenia”, and it’s one of the most infectious things that I’ve heard in a while.

It’s witty, charming, and sunny with an upbeat melodies that shifts up and down like it’s…schizophrenic.

“Schizophrenia” is on their sophomore album Everything Under the Sun, which came out on September 7th, completely passing me by. I gotta catch up. If any of the songs are as solid as this, they have created quite the album.

Everything Under the Sun is available to purchase from insound.
