[new] Kanye West – Runaway (Feat. Pusha T)

By Will, September 13th 2010 — with 2 comments

Less than a day ago Kanye premiered “Runaway” to millions live during the VMA’s. Videos went up and live mp3′s were exchanged. Now a few hours later, we have a studio quality mp3. I love 2010.

Rogo told me he doesn’t think this is the final mastered version, but hey, this works quite fine right now. “Runaway” is one of the more emotional moments that we’ve gotten from Kanye, ever. The song was posted thanks to Flex from Hot 97.

Download it below:

Crystal Stilts are releasing new single “Shake The Shackles” this October backed by b-side “Magnetic Moon”. The single will be released on Slumberland Records on October 26th. The single is a taste of what the band has got in-store for their new album, due next year.

The somewhat Joy Division inspired “Shake The Shackles” is a clean psychedelic garage pop delight that is in it’s own league. Stream it below, along with the single only b-side, “Magnetic Moon”:

Introducing: The Vaccines

By Will, September 13th 2010 — with 8 comments

As a music blogger, you can imagine that I love finding a new band that is riding the buzz train. There is nothing quite like finding a hot new band and joining them on their journey to the top. You feel like you’re a part of something bigger than yourself, and it can be life changing.

Right now I got a really giddy feeling after finding out about The Vaccines from a recent blog discovery of mine the OCMD. All it took was one listen from their first demo, “If You Wanna”, to have me as their newest believer.

Not all that much is known about the band other than that they are four guys from the UK who have released one incredible demo here. The band deserves every bit of praise that they have/will receive based on the strength of “If You Wanna”. It’s simply a fresh of breath air of real live rock and roll music.

I’m excited to see what comes next for The Vaccines. Download “If You Wanna”, below:

The band has a website/blog and a facebook.

Band To Watch: The Pass

I already posted the music video for The Pass’s “Treatment Of The Sun” but that’s hardly enough. I wanna do the band true justice and make sure you’re all aware of this band. I got a listen at their debut album BURST , and quite simply, it’s a great album. May just be my new party album.

If you have to compare, let’s call these guys the Passion Pit of 2010. They are fresh, colorful, and create tight electronic jams that will have even the stiffest feet moving. Their entire album is filled with irresistible dance anthem after irresistible dance anthem. It’s quite a debut.

No the band doesn’t reside in NYC, Boston, or LA. The Pass are four fellas hailing from Louisville , Kentucky who have proven that the central east can bring it just as hard.

The band is allowing free downloads of “Trap Of Mirrors” from their debut album. Grab that below:

BURST will officially drop on September 21st via sonaBLAST! Records. This won’t be the last you hear of this band on here. These guys have quickly jumped on my list of best new bands. Do yourself a favor and make it happen for yourself as well.

If you haven’t watched the video for “Vultures” watch that below. It features over 30 music blog references, and was directed by Zach from the fabulous blog (and dear friends of mine) We Listen For You.

[video] Kanye West – Runaway (Feat. Pusha T) Live at the VMAs

By Will, September 13th 2010 — with 5 comments

The live video of “Runaway”, a new song that Kanye performed at last nights VMA’s, is up and ready for our streaming plesure. Whadya know, Kanye has delivered once again. ”

Kanye is on a real emotional level on “Runaway”. He gives the middle fingers to douchebags and assholes, and I’m right there with him. Kanye has apparently changed a lot from his cocky old self, and it shows through his new music. Pusha T from Clipse drops a featured verse.
Hopefully this is the next song he treats us to on G.O.O.D. Friday. If not, then it better be thrown on the album.

Watch the performance thanks to 2dopeboyz

NYC UFO’s

Just came across the first release from NYC UFO’s who are from Northampton, Massachusetts, not NYC. Their first release, Newer Stations, consists of 5 new songs along with 5 songs that are still in demo form.

It has that early fuzzy guitar crunch of the early Strokes. Hell, their singer even sounds like Julian at times. The songs are just lo-fi enough to give the songs a nice dirty edge. These guys have the garage rock thing down to pact, and I’m certainly a fan of it.

Here’s the great “Any Other Time” posted for your pleasure:

Passion Pit – Black Canvases (TV Commercial)

By Will, September 12th 2010 — with 3 comments

I was watching the Giants game & during the commercials I noticed an American Express commercial that featured a song from Passion Pit that I never heard before. I guess they made it for the commercial exclusively.

Anyway, I really liked the song and searched for it and found the clip on youtube. Wonder if the band will ever properly release the full song? I’m sure that I’m not the only one who’d love to hear it.

Watch/hear the clip below:

[mp3]: Chiddy Bang – The Good Life

By Will, September 12th 2010

Check out the Pharell produced “The Good Life”, a new song from Chiddy Bang’s upcoming mini-album The Preview. Spin premiered the song a few days ago, and I finally got my act together and gave it a listen. Not too bad. While I dug songs of theirs like “The Opposite Of Adults” more, “The Good Life” stills has a fresh unique sound.

Download it below:

Their debut full length should drop sometime next year.

Surfer Blood Sign To Warner Bros.

By Will, September 11th 2010

Surfer Blood jumped the waters from indie to major , apparently signing a deal to Warner Bros. Records, according to a BrightestYoungThings interview with lead singer J.P. Pitts. The band is currently signed to Kanine Records and plans to release a future EP on Kanine before releasing their next album on a duel release with both labels.

I knew Surfer Blood were going to move onto a bigger label, but I didn’t think it would be one like Warner. Good for them though. They are a great band and deserve it all.

[mp3]: Houses – Soak It Up

By Will, September 11th 2010 — with 3 comments

The story behind Houses is an inspiring one. After getting fired from his job, Dexter Tortoriell & his girlfriend Megan Messina left the country to live in Hawaii, learning how to live off of our earth. Dexter would record music in his downtime there, and the result is the band’s debut album, All Night.

You can hear “Soak It Up”, a song from All Night that’s available for free download. It’s a light airy number that sounds like it could be playing to a beautiful sunrise that leaves you speechless. It’s imminent beauty is there. It’s your choice to soak it up.

All Night comes out on October 19th via Lefse. Check out “Destiny” their magnificent tag team with Teen Daze. You can also download “Bikes”, another collaborative song between the two below:
