“Not In Love” is a song that’s on Crystal Castles newest album Crystal Castles II. It’s also a cover of the Platinum Blonde song. The band has just released a remix of the song that features Robert Smith of The Cure. How insane is that?

This version of the song absolutely rules. Too hard. What a perfect combination. It’s going to be included on their single for their original version which is coming out on December 6th via Fiction.

If you still haven’t seen Kanye’s full length film Runaway, you gotta check it out. It’s visually stunning. Love the song in the beginning. Apparently it’s going to open his new album. It sounds killer.

It’s a good watch. Give it a try:

MICKEY MICKEY ROURKE is back with a new tripped out psych gem called “Satanic Youth Brigade”.

He sent it to me along with the following message:

I’m not feeling to good ////// have an amazing HALLOWEEN but don’t get to fucked up.

So do what he says. He also recommends listening to his song, so you may want to give it a listen. It’s available to stream below. It’s off his upcoming album Magic User.

Follies :: Home Knits [EP]

By Will, October 27th 2010

I got a great little EP to share with you guys. The EP Home Knit, comes from a young band called Follies.

Their drummer is my buddy Henry who I interned with over the summer, and who also just happens to write for the excellent music blog The Tape. He showed it to me last month but as usual I got too mixed up and never got around to posting it. I really do have to work on that.

The EP was recorded to tape at various band members homes, as well as in a cabin in Lake Tahoe. It’s up on the band’s bandcamp via Laughable Recordings and you can grab it by naming your own price. If your looking for a nice gentle listen, then look no further. This is your go to EP:

[new] Tapes ‘n Tapes – Freak Out

By Will, October 26th 2010

Listen: Tapes 'n Tapes: "Freak Out"

Next year, on 1/11/11, Tapes ‘n Tapes will release Outside, their follow up to 2008′s Walk It Off. The band has made first single “Freak Out” available to snag as a free download, and it’s a pretty great song. It has this bar rock and roll appeal that the band has nailed down to pact. It has a lot of different influences spread within it’s bones, providing a little bit of fun for everyone. Something about it seems sort of epic to me. It doesn’t quite jump of the bat, but it slowly builds towards it. You can bet people are going to freak out to this one live.

I’m really enjoying this song. I hope the rest of the album is this strong.

Grab it below via Pitchfork:

Beastie Boys :: Hot Sauce Committee Part 2

By Will, October 25th 2010 — with 3 comments

Beastie Boys have announced that there new album is going to be Hot Sauce Committee Part 2. They are skipping Part 1, even though Part 2 consists of the exact same tracklisting as Part 1. Yeah, it’s confusing.

Here’s what Adam MCA Yauch had to say about the album:

I know it’s weird and confusing, but at least we can say unequivocally that Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 is coming out on time, which is more than I can say about Part 1, and really is all that matters in the end. We just kept working and working on various sequences for part 2, and after a year and half of spending days on end in the sequencing room trying out every possible combination, it finally became clear that this was the only way to make it work. Strange but true, the final sequence for Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 works best with all its songs replaced by the 16 tracks we originally had lined up in pretty much the same order we had them in for Hot Sauce Committee Part 1. So we’ve come full circle.

Somewhat confusing, but all that matters is there will be a new Beastie Boys album in spring 2011. Good enough for me.

Check out it’s tracklisting after the jump:

Kanye West Plays Surprise NYC Gig @ Brooklyn Bowl

By Will, October 24th 2010 — with 6 comments

Hey guys, so sorry that I haven’t been posting this week. You may have realized that I am at CMJ, and that I have been pretty busy and crazed. Normal posting will resume soon, right after my CMJ Recap which is going to be a mess to put together.

I am rushing this recap because it’s quite special. At about 9:40 p.m. last night, my buddy Rogo texted me saying “Kanye at Brooklyn Bowl tonight. Go go go go.” To be honest, I figured he was trying to mess with me. However I did a quick twitter search and there was some conversation about it. Nothing stays a secret very long with the way we use technology. We decided we couldn’t pass up the possible chance to see Kanye in Brooklyn, and rushed over there.

We got there hours before there was any chance of seeing him, but we stayed patient. We waited through a lot of Fool’s Gold acts such as Donnis, anticipating an appearance from Mr. Weswt, but also starting to fear that the rumor was only a rumor. However during Cyhi Da Prynce’s set, Kanye came running out of no where to kick into “So Appalled”. I have seen many shows, but it’s hard for me to remember any crowd going as apeshit as Brooklyn Bowl did when Kanye stepped foot onto the stage. He was wearing a huge gold Horus chain, something that didn’t seem out of place on him.

This is Kanye we’re talking about. He was mere feet away from us on stage, even high fiving those who are blessed with a large wingspan (like myself) or fortunate enough to catch his eye. He had the crowd in his palm, and he didn’t let go. He gave a monstrous performance of “Monster” with some great backup from A-Trak. Kanye was firing on all cylinders, standing larger than life in front of the lucky few who were smart enough to get over to Brooklyn Bowl, or at least lucky enough to stay there for the duration of pitchfork’s #offline showcase.

Kanye’s performance of “Power” was beyond electric, practically causing a riot. He gave us “Devil In A New Dress”, before firing into “Runaway”, which is clearly already a favorite amongst his fans. He left us just like that, and we couldn’t have been happier. It was only mere minutes that freakin’ GZA would follow, causing the crowd to keep its frenzy going.

Even though it was only 5 songs, it was something pretty special. Everyone who was there knew they were witnessing some kind of CMJ/Kanye history. It cost only 10 bucks to attend, and let’s just say you got your moneys worth. Kanye sure does know how to promote.
